Any doctors around? GA question

I had a GA yesterday, and it was handed over to the nurse that I had had an episode of apnoea whilst under and I was not be given Fentanyl again at all.

Nobody discussed this with me. I'm presuming I had respiratory depression due to the fentanyl...(I have had GAs in the past without issue as far as I'm aware). I'm just wondering how common apnoeas like this are? As in should I be concerned if I ever need another GA?

That would really concern me ,surely someone should discuss with you so that you are aware and not relying on people reading /having access to your medical notes for any future treatment ?

Are you still in hospital ? Can you raise it with ..I guess ideally the anesathetist ?

I am back home now, so can't ask. I did ask the discharging nurse about it, and she just said it will flagged in my notes. I guess I'm just wondering how much of a 'deal' it is in surgical terms, or whether it's a very common occurrence.

Hi, I am a doctor but not an anesthetist. I am however qualified in emergency medicine. Fentanyl is a potent drug and can cause short respiratory depression aka apnoea.
Individual sensitivity to Fentanyl is difficult to predict so dosing is usually incremental or cautious.
If you are very sensitive a tiny amount could have caused an apnoea.
Its nothing to get alarmed about, it's on your records now, you know to mention it if you need a ga again.
Its one of those unpredictable things

Thanks for replying. Does this sort of sensitivity occur very frequently do you know?
