Trussed up in a sparkly evening gown

Well, that went wrong - someone on our street called round and he accidentally kicked over a heavy suitcase in my tiny flat. Out of curiosity I clicked open the locks.

I had a fair idea that it contained a couple of presents from my best friend from uni, childhood toy, diaries, and my mother's evening dress from the 1960s. It's blue with sparkles. I was right and put on the dress from nostalgia.

I cannot get it off. I cannot go out like this nor ask anyone to unzip me. It's a lovely dress but it's a sparkly slinky evening gown and I cannot go to the shop in this.

Actually I'm going to have to admit defeat and get someone to get me out of this, aren't I?

Bloody hell Languid, let's have the backstory here! Mysterious stranger, forgotten suitcase, sounds like beginning of modern day fairy tale! Sling a coat over it if venturing out to local shops later on and treat yourself to a nice breakfast. Don't panic! I'm sure you'll manage to extricate yourself after relaxing a bit and if not, call a friend! As long as there's no danger of you turning into Miss Haversham you'll be fine! Post a pic!

LanguidLobster · 19/10/2018 06:43

Err it's OK MrsCatE I've got it off now Blush

I’m slightly disappointed, it had potential to be an excellent thread! Don’t suppose you took any photos...? Grin

That’s quite a random selection of personal treasures to in a suitcase, to be delivered to your tiny flat this early by a stranger.

Tell us more about the dress.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/10/2018 06:58

Oh sorry, kicked over, I somehow read that kicked in. So no delivery by s mysterious new neighbour then.

sashh · 19/10/2018 07:02

pics r it didn't happen

PeridotCricket · 19/10/2018 07:08

That stopped way too soon....

TanteRose · 19/10/2018 07:13

ohhh, that had the potential to be a cracking thread...

can you not put the dress back on and go about your day? live reports and all that?

MrsCatE · 19/10/2018 07:17

Absolutely agree with TanteRose. We want pics of a whole day out wearing sparkly dress; everything from shopping at ASDA to nipping into the post office. Wink

Volant · 19/10/2018 07:26

Are you in the UK? I'm struggling to compute how all this happened at 5 a.m.

Wonthe · 19/10/2018 07:28

Why was your neighbour rounds at half five in the morning?

UnleashTheBulsara · 19/10/2018 07:59

There was a poster once who got stuck in a playsuit and couldn't get it off.

I think she had to enlist her DD's help when she got home in the end, but it was hours later and we had much amusement at her predicament.

You've got out of yours too soon, I feel cheated

And are you in Oz or do you have early starts for climbing into slinky dresses...?

Bluntness100 · 19/10/2018 08:06

I got stuck in a dress once in a shop. It took two sales assistants to get it off me. It was mortifying.

Had to brazen it out and walk out smiling saying, "thanks for that, bye," as they both looked at me like Hmm

Littlechocola · 19/10/2018 08:09

Sounded like the start of a great thread. Sad
Can you not put it back on?

liquidrevolution · 19/10/2018 08:13

We need a pic of the dress at least!

TeaByTheSeaside · 19/10/2018 09:38

I remember that thread, Unleash. I think the main issue was the OP was bursting for a wee and couldn't get the jumpsuit off!

OP please put the dress back on and take a pic - we'd love to see it! And if you get stuck again, we're all here to help you! 😂

64ChewsBrains · 19/10/2018 09:40

Ahhh, lovely little almost-classic thread Grin

MarthaHanson · 19/10/2018 09:43

I feel quite cheated!

MalcolmsBrokenWalrusMoneybox · 19/10/2018 10:24

This is the opposite of a "locked safe" thread. From now on, any thread that reaches a conclusion too quickly will be known as a "sparkly evening gown thread" & name changing posters will quote "sparkly dress" or "evening gown" to prove that they know their onions.

Theyprobablywill · 19/10/2018 10:26

I once got stuck in an anorak when the zip broke. I had to get my friend to cut me out

CircleofWillis · 19/10/2018 10:54

OP could you let us know what you are doing at intervals throughout the day.
That way we can post our reimaginings of your day as it would have been if you were still stuck in your dress.

sashh · 19/10/2018 17:21

I'm thinking 19th October should perhaps be 'ball gown day' we can all dress up in sparkles, jewels, satin just to go about a normal day's work.

I'm sure we could raise some money, not sure what for though.

MrsJBaptiste · 19/10/2018 17:27

I once got stuck in an anorak when the zip broke

This could just about be the worst thing to get stuck in. Unless you're an avid bird watcher of course.

LanguidLobster · 20/10/2018 12:48

You've challenged me now, I might take a pic of the damn thing later. I'd packed it up back inside my suitcase where it belongs.

It got me sort of done that night. He told me it was slightly see through and I said that I would tell my mother her dress was trouble and he said 'hahahaha you think she didn't know??'

So you had a mystery suitcase taking up space in your tiny flat and you had never thought to open it before. I image the person who called round (and then helped you get the dress off) is the neighbour you call on in the middle of the night because it’s windy and also the one you blownhot and cold with. Don’t suppose there’s any chance you put the dress on for the sole poof asking neighbor to help you get it off is there? I can’t say I’ve ever tried anything on that I couldn’t then get off.
