Opened block of cheese from Aldi and it's riddled with mould - will they replace?

So annoyed! I feel cheated out of cheese in my omelette this evening, and only yesterday was I marvelling on these boards at how great Aldi is for their chocolate.

But the whole block of cheddar is dotted and streaked with blue mould Angry I don't think I could find the receipt, will they replace it without one?

It's not meant to be out of date until December.

That's really annoying when that happens. However, I suggest you ask Aldis about a refund and not mumsnet.

Ktay · 18/10/2018 21:13

Maybe other MNers have had experiences of returning faulty stuff to Aldi that will help the OP work out whether it’s worth her while traipsing back there?

HoleyCoMoley · 18/10/2018 21:18

You can ring them and ask, i would expext them to refund the money and offer a free replacement.

Aldi are great at refunds. Just take it back into store and there won’t be an issue.

AbsentmindedWoman · 18/10/2018 21:49

Yeah I've never had to bring food back to a supermarket before, so was posting to see what Aldi were like when it comes to that.

Thank you helpful posters! I'm going to bring it back tomorrow. Good to hear they're decent for refunds.

I would suspect Aldis has an easy way of contacting them online for reasons just such as OPs.

Oh look! A 2 second Google got me this. customerservice.aldi.co.uk/contact

I do hope they refund your cheese.

DaphneFanshaw · 18/10/2018 21:56

Ffs foof, who shat in your handbag?
Yes op, you will be to swop it or get a refund.

AbsentmindedWoman · 18/10/2018 22:01

"Ffs foof, who shat in your handbag?"

Grin

Foof, you do seem to be rather upset by me sharing this minor mouldy cheese trauma.

Same thing happened to us I was disgusted but no quibble they gave us a replacement. I am always a bit suspicious now when I open a new packet was it the Glen Lochy or something like that type?

TheHobbitMum · 18/10/2018 22:04

I work for Aldi, they will absolutely replace

reallyanotherone · 18/10/2018 22:04

Are you going back to aldi anyway?

I rarely return stuff like this as the cost of petrol/bus/parking means it works out cheaper to just bin it. I wouldn’t bother making a special journey.

AbsentmindedWoman · 18/10/2018 22:07

It was a purple pack - extra strong mature cheddar or somesuch? It's put me off buying cheese there, I like the Lidl cheese too so will just schlep there for future cheese needs.

Good they didn't quibble!

Over the years I've returned food to Aldi. Absolutely no problem ever with giving a replacementSmile

BatShitBitchChops · 18/10/2018 22:20

I had to return some chicken recently that was in date but clearly off when opened. They told me they could exchange as I had brought it in the last 2 days. Dunno whether that is policy or they just made it up but I got a fresh one!

HildaZelda · 18/10/2018 22:53

Yes, they'll be fine. I had to return chicken fillets before as they were off when I opened them despite being in date.
I suspect there may have been a little pinhole in the pack somewhere.
Anyway, I didn't have a receipt either because I'd bought them in my 'big shop' the day before and didn't have a clue where it was.
They offered me a refund or told me I could just get a new pack.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/10/2018 03:25

If I wasn't planning on going back there, I'd email them a photo of the cheese and packaging showing the batch code etc and hope for a voucher for a 'rounded up' amount. Eg for a pack of cheese, a voucher for a fiver would be about right.

Just about all Aldi stuff is own brand so they'll know it came from there and will probably trust that you bought the item rather than stole it, so I wouldn't worry about not having a receipt.

It would be mean of the company to expect you to trek back to the shop to sort this. It wouldn't be a problem for me as I pass Aldi on the way home from work and go most weeks at least once, but it's annoying if you have to make a special trip, and generally isn't worth the time and expense.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/10/2018 03:27

But I wouldn't be worried about buying Aldi cheese - I've bought loads of cheese from them over the years and have never had a problem. I suspect in your case, the pack was not properly sealed or got damaged, which caused the mould.
