What could this be? (Medical related)

Obviously I will go to the doctor as soon as I can but, in the meantime, I wondered if anyone knows what this could be.

For the past 3 days I've had sudden stabbing pains in the left side of my head that last no more than 10 seconds. I rarely get headaches, never migraines, and when I do they have never been "ice pick-like".

Today I've woken up with a pain in my upper spine; i.e neck and upper back area. But it definitely feels like it's coming from the spine and not the muscles, iyswim. It hurts to move my neck. I don't know if I'll be able to work (I'm self-employed).

I've had to sleep 1 hour a day on the (very comfy) sofa for the past week because of building work next door. Could it be that? I doesn't feel like the typical stiff neck/bad back from sleeping on a bad bed.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

OK, any light sensitivity? Or rashes?

Thanks for replying, Memory. Nope, no other symptoms.

Well, it's more common in migraine sufferers, so could just be linked to that. Could also be an injury to the nerve in that area, or:

short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks with conjunctival injection and tearing (SUNCT)- this one comes with red, watery eyes

short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks with cranial autonomic symptoms (SUNA)- there are other symptoms for this one too

occipital neuralgia-light sensitivity sometimes but not always

other cranial neuralgias

trigeminal neuralgia - more the face than the head

nummular headache- pain is described as coin shaped

Have a google and see what you think. I think it's probably migraine or nerve linked but would get yourself to a doctor as soon as possible at any rate.

Thanks so much for the information, Memory, really helpful. The doctor has just referred me for a spine x-ray so we'll soon see if anything shows up. I also feel it may be nerve related. I'm going to start looking at what you've sent, thanks again Smile
