Moments so lovely they make your heart hurt

This morning ds2 wandered into my room and climbed in for a snuggle.

It was a totally wordless, heart squeezing moment of loveliness, but it's bittersweet because he's nearly 8, he's my last child and I don't know how much longer he's going to want to do this.

I treasure every last one more than the one before, just in case it is the last.

What makes your heart ache?

My 16 year old who on Monday got a much fought for role in his college musical.

I picked him at 9.30pm (he’d gone straight to dance class after college). His first words were “I’ve missed you today. I’ve been waiting for now” the moment he got a huge hug and kiss and I told him how proud I was.

I was convinced my DTs were pretty meh about me (their Mum!). DS was crying the other evening whilst being cuddled and soothed by a family member, and the only thing that soothed him is he wanted his mummy. He wanted me! Even writing it now has made my heart feel like it’s going to burst Grin

DD earlier when I got her out of her car seat was absolutely thrilled to see me too, and was gabbling away, it was one of the best greetings I’ve ever had.

Thinking about it, I’m starting to believe I’m not quite as shit at this mothering lark as I have thought their entire lives.

This makes me realise why my little one needs a brother or sister!

Pigeonpresent · 18/10/2018 22:36

My lovely nana had cancer and was on a lot of medication that made her very confused. She used to always say ‘love you lots’ as I left and one afternoon she struggled to get the words out but managed ‘I love your socks’, she had this moment of clarity where she howled laughing and we all did too.

Rixera · 18/10/2018 22:36

@Scifi101 they might come later or a bit differently. I was moved by my aspie brother with my daughter- his niece.
He has always hated being around babies and small children but with my daughter, she learned to count fairly quickly. He started teaching her advanced mathematics as soon as she learned 1, 2, 3 :)

One time, she dropped her toy near him. She has never been much of a crier so that may have helped, but he handed it back to her!

If you knew him, and the way he would literally climb out of reach of toddlers normally, you would see how touching it was. He reached out to her, literally. It still brings a smile to my face.

Every morning I go in to my 11 month old and he's stood up at the cot smiling at me and babbling my heart just aches (even though I'm usually shattered!)

my parents aren't around anymore and it's only since having ds I've realised just how much they loved me and I wish I'd have showed them how much I love them too. ❤️

BertrandRussell · 18/10/2018 22:41

My children are. 17 and 22- and are currently chasing each other up and down the house, playing, chasing, cuddling and tickling and laughing like loons. My heart is melting.

Ochayethenoocoo · 18/10/2018 22:45

Tonight I gave my just about to turn 2 ds a kiss and said night night love you too which he replied 'love ooo'

Jeffjefftyjeff · 18/10/2018 22:50

I’ve been away with work. As soon as DS (12) woke up this morning he came in to my room and laid in the dark telling me about his football match that his team won while I was away. All the boring football details that his father wouldn’t get but he knew I would be interested in.

tigercub50 · 18/10/2018 22:52

DD sitting on her little trampoline with one of the bunnies on her lap earlier this evening, showing him the constellations - it’s a beautiful clear starry night. That made me think of a night when my oldest DN was younger & we were walking back through the woods after a storytelling session. We had fallen behind the others & stopped to watch loads of shooting stars - pure magic

mycatplotsdeath · 18/10/2018 22:54

That 26 year old Dd1 asks every single week if I have time for a lunch date.
Love that although she has her own life she still loves spending some time with her old mum

puppymouse · 18/10/2018 22:57

Plenty of awww moments with DD. I also adore the face cupping "so soft. You're so pretty."

But what usually kills me is my food-obsessed slightly teenage-boy-like dhorse who when tired or poorly will smush his entire velvety nose onto my face and hold it there with his eyes half shut with contentment.

He'll also stretch out his neck, tilt his head and nuzzle at my lips with his eyes closed like a 14yo kid having its first snog 😂

GhoulTheFckToSpook · 18/10/2018 22:59

Everything but her crying makes my heart swell up and burst.

Even when I read to her and she suddenly goes nuts and starts babbling over me. I do not understand it but it’s very cute.

When she has a her tiny cute squishy face right up against mine studying my face and trying to eat it like a lion cub. I bloody love it.

When I carry her around like a hod carrier and she’s content because she’s a nosy cow and can see everything, and clings on to me like a baby orangutan.

myknickersknackersknockers · 18/10/2018 23:07

Seeing a SEND pupil at school that I’ve seen through nursery and really worked hard on perform in assembly today. She had a massive smile on her face. I was so proud and it made all my hard work with her worth it.

April2020mom · 18/10/2018 23:46

My sister bought me a sausage roll once from a local shop. I appreciate the gesture but since I don’t eat meat I gave it to my mom for lunch.

ilovepixie · 19/10/2018 00:43

My dad had died from cancer and I was lying in bed one night crying. My dog jumped up and laid her head on my cheek and looked up at me with her big brown eyes. She lay like that all night just comforting me.

StoppinBy · 19/10/2018 00:43

Miss 4's lunch bag has a small silver heart inside a big pink heart. As she was packing her lunch she said to me,

"these two heart are me and T (Master 17mth), T is the little one and I am the bigger one because I am his big sister and he is my little brother"

I am pretty sure my heart turned in to a puddle at that very moment.

SecretWitch · 19/10/2018 00:57

Watching from a distance (she never knew I was there) as my eldest dd, who is an EMT, bent down to adjust the blanket of an elderly woman on her way into the hospital. The woman reached up for dd’s hand and I saw her take it and bend down to her. At that moment, I knew I had managed to raise a compassionate young woman.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 19/10/2018 01:23

FiL is in hospital with a stroke, DH has been devotedly visiting him every day. FIL has just got his ability to swallow back and DH was feeding him from a spoon. Poor FIL was grumbling about having lost all his dignity, DH said, "Nah, it's the circle of life isn't it? You did this for me when I was a baby because you love me, I'm doing it for you now because I love you."

Proper tearing up, even thinking about it.

Justanotheruser01 · 19/10/2018 05:50

GoldenMcOldie · 19/10/2018 06:02

DS2 - aged 14. Recent exams (Australia) resulted in feeling highly anxious. I spent ages talking him down and giving him some helpful strategies to manage his anxiety and prepare for a particular exam.

A few days later, we were sitting together and he said to me "Mum, thank you for helping me. You don't know how much better you made me feel. You made me believe in myself. Thank you". Followed by a big hug and kiss on the cheek.

ellesbellesxxx · 19/10/2018 06:07

My 16 month old ds was crying yesterday evening.. he was exhausted and I think had walked into a book.
His twin sister crawled over and put her head against his, he then leaned in for a cuddle and they both started laughing.
Ivf miracles.. moments like that make all the waiting worthwhile

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 19/10/2018 06:10

When DS was teeny I was teaching him how to meditate. We were sitting on the floor cross-legged, hands turned up.

As I was softly saying “now throw any thoughts out of your mind” I could hear him making a funny “tccht tccht” sound. I asked him what he was doing and he said “I’m throwing Nanny in the dustbin”!

Experiment627 · 19/10/2018 06:11

Jesus I am 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
These are gorgeous but too much for my "I have a 4 week old baby and am severely sleep deprived"

freakinbananaspiders · 19/10/2018 06:38

When my 4 year old told me the other day that even when I'm gone (dead) she will think about me every day 😭
