Do baked beans belong on a roast dinner?

Inspired by my recent carvery trip with a friend who came back with a pile of Heinz on her plate and after I asked why she chose beans I was told "well they were there for us to have!"... Cue her going red when I said they were probably for the fish and chips, she thought the place was just selling carvery foods. Blush Grin

Eewww, that's all kinds of wrong.

redsummershoes · 17/10/2018 21:51

Is it that bad! It's only more vedge.

Tbf though I have beans with a lot of things. Never thought it was odd.

Jojoanna · 17/10/2018 21:54

No no no

Chelseajunior · 17/10/2018 21:54

Yuck!
No way on earth Envy

StripySocksAndDocs · 17/10/2018 21:55

No.

Also don't belong with fish and chips.

Where will this lead? Beans and jelly? Baked bean scone?

On toast only. Oh hold on, may be the OP's friend mistook roast for toast?

safariboot · 17/10/2018 21:55

I wouldn't serve them to you, but if I want to have beans with my roast then so be it.

Brexit, Trump and beans with a roast? Whatever next?

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 21:56

In my experience baked beans would probably enhance a roast from a carvery. With my mum’s roast? No way!

MarcieBluebell · 17/10/2018 21:57

What about shepherds pie and beans?
Or curry and beans?

ProudThrilledHappy · 17/10/2018 21:58

For the love of God Marcie what kind of madness is this??

Bluntness100 · 17/10/2018 21:58

I don't like beans at all so my opinion is slightly biased, but that's grim.

Is she one of those who sees a buffet and then acts like she's hasn't eaten for a year and needs to get her monies worth?

amusedbush · 17/10/2018 22:01

Is it that bad! It's only more vedge.

Beans with a roast is awful but it makes me less uncomfortable than seeing veg spelled that way! ShockGrin

MarcieBluebell · 17/10/2018 22:03

I'm actually laughing. I genuinely never knew this was even a little bit weird. Mind. is. blown.

Fairypiggy · 17/10/2018 22:04

Eeew no. That is odd. My Dad has marmite with his roast which I always find weird. Also sometimes mango chutney!

64BooLane · 17/10/2018 22:07

Beans aren’t veg!

MarcieBluebell · 17/10/2018 22:07

amused omg there's no d!!!!

I'm going to bed.

MarcieBluebell · 17/10/2018 22:08

Harricot beans?

cheesefield · 17/10/2018 22:12

What carvery does a roast and fish and chips at the same time??

DoubleLottchen · 17/10/2018 22:12

Lovingly homemade baked beans, with, perhaps roast pork, fair enough.

Heinz from a tin tipped over your roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

shamby · 17/10/2018 22:29

Hahahaha is your friend in the see food and eat it category? My dads in that and he’d so so this. Other combinations include pickled onions on marmalade toast...

AGHHHH · 17/10/2018 22:31

@cheesefield all carveries I've been to haha. They've all been pubs, serving typical pub food (ordered at the bar and cooked in the kitchen) then a carvery station.
