Caffeine withdrawals-HELP!!!

I've decided to give up caffeine. I only have 2 or 3 coffees a day but I've read so often on how it confuses our hormones and isn't great for weight loss. A lot of the time I don't particularly enjoy a coffee-I just have one coz it's offered or because I can feel a headache coming on! Sometimes after a coffee I can have a bad tummy or if it's a shop bought coffee, I get awful shakes and jitters and my eyes go squiffy! I stopped Monday and the headache is still absolutely horrific. I'm taking paracetamol when it's really bad and drinking loads and loads of water.

What I'm really after if someone saying 'you're doing the right thing-keep at it-you'll feel great soon'!!

Please?!

It took a week for my headache to go, so the end is in sight!

Thank you! Did you feel better for it after?

Yes, you can get a caffeine withdrawal headache, unfortunately! I know what you mean about the jitters with strong coffee as well, though!

ClaireUnderwoodforPresident · 17/10/2018 19:22

I quit coffee previously and similar to you, felt horrendous for over a week, possibly two! However once the jitters / headaches wore off I noticed great Improvements in my skin, sleep and cellulite.

Am back on it now, as I love a cup of coffee, but persevere, it's worth it

Thanks people. I shall keep at it and not expect to feel great for a while! But then I look forward to being thinner, energised and glowing

I got terrible headaches when I gave up caffeine. I only had one cup of coffee a day, no tea, no fizzy drinks, no chocolate etc, so didn't give up much. I also fell asleep randomly.

Back on the coffee now, just the one cup again. Was caffeine free for two years but really missed that one cup of coffee.

littlem133 · 17/10/2018 19:53

Did you feel better at all for having given up? Any reason why I can't enjoy the odd caffeine free coffee some days?

Decaffeinated coffee isn't caffeine free, sadly.

littlem133 · 17/10/2018 21:33

Eh?!

I had about 3 days of horrible headaches but was OK after that. I now drink gallons of (Lidl) fruit tea and maybe 2 cups of tea a week. I had two cups of tea today (11am) and feel jittery now, so yes, very much an improvement for me!

littlem133 · 18/10/2018 20:48

Thanks everyone. It's day 4 and I'm feeling so much better. First evening I haven't wanted to collapse by 7pm!! Still got a headache but nothing like I have had. Woohoo

I first switched to half caffeinated ground coffee from Sainsbury's and then switched to decaff. I didn't experience any adverse affects by doing it this way but I would have done if I went cold turkey.

littlem133 · 18/10/2018 21:35

Doh. Too late now. Maybe that's what I should have done

It took me 3 or 4 days to feel normal after giving up caffeine and had horrendous headaches for that time BUT felt so much better after and more energised. It is worth it and you're doing the right thing 😊

Gooseygoosey12345 · 18/10/2018 21:43

And yes you can have the occasional coffee

littlem133 · 18/10/2018 22:33

That's really encouraging. Thanks goosey. Do you not get a massive caffeine rush and feel poorly if you have the odd coffee?

Drink decaff coffee if you need a coffe. I haven't given up coffee, I've just switched to decaff.
