hi,bit of background

47yrs old havent had a period since coming of the Deppo injection Feb/ March

i have been sufferring sweats really bad day and night, not a wave as my friend describes but just full on,at first put it down to the heatwave although it happened before

periods come back very quickly when i have had a break from deppo but nothing 8 months now

greasy skin/ hair on and of like being a bloody teenager

went to my gp today and he thinks im in the Menopause but he wont put me on HRT as im high risk smoke, over weight (thats being tackled) and have just had a bad DVT so HRT is out

does anybody else find themselves unable to take HRT if so what do you find helps, been suggested a hand held fan which is great but any other medication

gp was on about highering my anti d's for my joint pain but i take alot of meds (bipolar anxiety) so would rather not

oh and said my practice does not do blood test now for it over the age of 45yrs

many thanks

I've always found the Menopause Matters website an excellent source of information about all things to do with menopause and treatments , both HRT and non HRT. Think you'll get lots of ideas & options in their forum too.

You need a referral to a Menopause Clinic you can have transdermal HRT

Definitely visit the Menopause Matters forum. 47 is still quite young to be oestrogen deficient (I speak from personal experience) so you need to seek expert advice.

Jano69 · 17/10/2018 22:02

Transdermal HRT takes the form of patches or gel, as opposed to tablets.

whatsthestory123 · 17/10/2018 22:05

but the gp said i cant have HRT due to weight and DVT

GPs can be totally hopeless as well as outdated with regards HRT. You need to see a Menopause Clinic. Google Dr Louise Newson. He web site is fab full of information. She is private Meno Consultant.

befairdontjudge · 18/10/2018 12:16

There is a list of NHS Clinics on the Menopause Matters Website. Louise Newsom lists the private Meno Consultants on her web site. You need your GP to refer to a NHS Clinic. No referral be if you go private, just ring for an appointment.

EndeavourVoyage · 18/10/2018 12:18

IVe learnt that GPs are generally both uninterested and clueless when it comes to menopause. Sadly it's up to us to do our own research and then go back to our GPs with a request and rationale for what you want.

Find a properly registered medical herbalist. I was really sceptical but mine had totally changed my life - her 'magic Potion' (am sure she'd chuckle if she heard me call it that) has relieved my constant aches and sweats.

And unexpectedly boosted my libido!!

befairdontjudge · 18/10/2018 16:50

Black Cohosh can be dangerous and cause liver problems be careful

Pamspeople · 18/10/2018 17:09

Yes I do think it's important not to assume herbal remedies are not potent or harmless - it's important to get good I go about how they function and interact. That's why I'd suggest having a consultation with a herbalist, their training is very long and thorough.

Good luck with it, hope you find some relief

Not in a healthy person, it will only affect you if you have liver or kidney issues already, that is nowhere near as bad as the side effects of HRT I may add.

LeftRightCentre · 18/10/2018 17:26

I'd seriously get onto the Menopause Matters site.

befairdontjudge · 18/10/2018 17:28

HRT is fine. Read Menopause Matters web site and forum. Or Louise Needing web site. Black Cohosh I personally would not risk. Herbal medicines are unlicensed.

LeftRightCentre · 18/10/2018 17:31

I had dire sweats, they were seriously ruining my life. I tried it all - gave up alcohol, don't smoke, got my weight down, exercise 6 days a week, changed my diet. Still sweating like mad. Only HRT worked.

gottachangethename1 · 18/10/2018 17:32

I take menopace (Boots, Sainsbury’s) and honestly think it’s made a difference . Hot flushes reduced and not so many headaches. Think I’m still in the peri menopause though, so not sure how good it would be once you’re in full blown menopause.

LeftRightCentre · 20/10/2018 18:09

There's a poster called QueenofNights I'd message as she seems very clued up about HRT and can probably direct you to a site or offer some knowledge into how you might still be able to use HRT. It was a total gamechanger for a lot of us.

whatsthestory123 · 21/10/2018 00:02

HRT postpones menopause. Unless you intend to take it for the rest of your life, you are just postponing the inevitable.

Isn’t it better to deal with menopause while you are still relatively young and physically fit?

I genuinely didn’t find any medication made the slightest bit of difference. Windows open even in the depths of winter, throwing the duvet on and off all night, fan in the bedroom, cold showers, wearing cardigans rather than jumpers for constant on and off all day, spare underwear in my bag for when I was drenched with sweat, colleagues of similar age who understood, all these helped.
