Inspired by the current thread re: best food for a bonfire night party what are your must haves?

Here’s mine:

  • It’s not Halloween without homemade apple pie with coins/charms hidden inside. (We don’t even celebrate Halloween so I don’t know why this one is so sacrosanct but it is.)
  • It’s not Christmas without constantly restocked bowls of pistachios in their shells. (I have lived abroad and found that I really didn’t miss plenty of traditional Christmas foods/treats but this one bothered me.)
  • It’s not Shrove Tuesday without pancakes. (This might seem obvious to some but having lived abroad where Fat Tuesday is just an excuse to eat any kind of treat foods, I found how much I really care about pancakes at every meal!)

It's not Diwali without gugra (deep fried pastries/biscuits stuffed with sweet crumbly semolina, almonds, pistachios and cardamom).

It's not bonfire night without toffee apples.

It’s not Christmas dinner without bread sauce.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 17/10/2018 16:42

Cinnamomo toffee apples much more associated with Halloween than bonfire night where I’m from, but I think that’s because bonfire night isn’t really a thing there. (At least the 5th Nov bonfire night anyway)

What about monkey nuts? They are also a Halloween thing where I’m from (Although I could def live without them) - are they associated with Halloween or bonfire night where you are?

It's not Easter without Roast Lamb

Tami hhmm I'm not sure? As bonfire night and Halloween are only days apart the stuff in the shops is pretty much the same over that period so I guess the treats are interchangeable really. As for monkey nuts I must say I never really buy them as I find them a bit bitter and raw tasting!
