I'm glad that one of the sanpro companies has noticed this.

Why isn't it clicky? Confused

Every school in my area has a huge initiative at the moment to supply sanitary protection to anyone that needs it. If the schools are on holiday pupils are welcome to take as much as they need to cover breaks.

TranquilityofSolitude · 17/10/2018 11:31

It's good that they are putting it directly into schools. I was talking to a friend who works at the Foodbank and she said they have loads of sanpro, but no one ever wants it.

toherdoor · 17/10/2018 12:38

That's awesome. I remember when I first left home at 17, and had no money, I couldn't always afford sanitary items. I went into a charity organisation once when I had my period and they had nothing to give me. I'm glad there is more awareness.

PhilomenaButterfly · 17/10/2018 13:27

I can't see any way to donate without buying sanpro, which is unfortunate as no one in our house needs them.

There's also an initiative in our area to put san pro in all schools, so currently wondering what we tell the infant girls so they don't go near it...visions of them coming out of the loos having stuck sanitary towels all over themselves Grin. In all seriousness though it's about time this was addressed and it's going to make a huge difference.

PhilomenaButterfly · 17/10/2018 16:57

UnderHisEye you could tell them they were just for KS2 girls? Obviously this may not work...

Underhiseye.. in my primary school there was a tin of them and a special bin in the ladies staff loo. Worked well, as far as I’m aware.
High school you went to the nurse.

TwistinMyMelon · 17/10/2018 17:19

I just don't understand why school cannot provide Sanpro for free. It's like not providing toilet paper.

PhilomenaButterfly · 17/10/2018 17:38

Possibly for the same reason that I paid £10 for 3 workbooks for DD to have at home. Schools don't have enough money.

TwistinMyMelon as I said upthread all schools/colleges/universities in Scotland do provide sanpro from P5 upwards. The Scottish Government has a huge initiative running regarding period poverty. Here

PhilomenaButterfly · 18/10/2018 11:08

That's so good. We need that in the rest of the UK.

My children’s primary has a stash of stuff in the office, and the KS2 girls’ toilets have sanitary bins in them.

PhilomenaMothra · 18/10/2018 22:03

If my DC's primary has anything like that, DD hasn't noticed, and nobody's told her. She hasn't started yet, but she's got an emergency kit in a pencil case in her bag.

OhNoes · 18/10/2018 23:11

We have the Red Box Project in our area:

Thanks OhNoes I've just emailed them. 😆

Dd got an envelope in her Pink parcel to post surplus sanpro(which she was delighted to use and wants to do again) but can't remember the details. Whenever I donate to food banks (and to the Harvest festival for the past 3 years) I donate all the spares we get through the year and also buy some from wholesalers. It's always greatly received. I don't mind donating but you can see how far down we've slipped when you read the list of requests. Along side the tins, packets of pasta and UHT milk they now want toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, sanpro and yesterday dd asked if she could give some of my face masks and other (unopened)samples of beauty products. (I subscribe to some beauty boxes). The teacher told her that a little girl her age was going to be thrilled to get even one of these luxuries. Dd is so kind and is the first to volunteer. She thinks it's disgusting that some females can't afford the basics of life.
