Stupid school rules

NATAT but inspired by the half term thread, what were the most ridiculous rules at your school?

I went to an RC girls' school so probably a bit stricter than some.

Uniform was a skirt (or dress in summer) with knee high socks, not tights, you had to wear uniform to and from school including when it was snowing.

We were not allowed jewelry around your neck unless it was a religious medal/cross/crucifix.

I'll probably think of some more.

Dd's school insists on girls wearing either tights or socks that cover the ankles, even with trousers, apparently the school is based in the 1800's and ankles are not allowed to be seen!

we had to stand when another teacher came into class, and this was 90s so not the Victorian era. totally put us off what we were working on and disrupted everything.

Weren't allowed to be seen eating with our uniform on outside of school, and had to be in full uniform or no uniform, so ties still on for the boys.

My school had a one way system, so everyone had to travel round the school in a clockwise direction, which was fine in principle. However, if you were in Maths and your next class was French, or English and your next class was History, or Computing and your next class was Art...your next class was next door on the left, so you had to walk round the ENTIRE SCHOOL to get to class, rather than going one metre in the opposite direction. And yes, teachers did enforce this!

We weren't allowed to carry our coats. Nor were we allowed to wear them inside. And there were no lockers. We were however, allowed to put coats in plastic bags.

It just seemed so totally pointless.

We also had a one-way system, always had to wear a beret to and from school, no eating in the street while wearing school uniform, no hanging around chatting on street corners while on the way home. Stand up when a member of staff comes into the classroom.

Most of these rules just sound like good manners to me.

mhw02. Our school had the same rule. So annoying if you were just past the door, you had to do another full circuit round the school. Even had to do it if you had come down/up the stairs and they came out on the wrong side of the class you wanted.
It was for safety apparently at our school as the classroom doors opened out into the hall.

My mil years before had been at the same school and in her day the one way system was done too but there was an added rule. One set of stairs was up only and the other down only. So even more extra walking round the school depending on were your class was.

No black bras under school shirt

No patent shoes

No tights - white socks only, over the knee socks allowed in winter

5th formers has to wear blazers AT ALL times

Skirts had to be on or below the knee, they were checked

And oddly no carrying chairs - they could be dragged but not carried
