Anyone ran a marathon as a relay?

I posted this in the exercise forum yesterday but I haven't had a response yet! I'm considering signing up for a marathon relay with another runner; we'd completing a half marathon each and we run at a similar pace currently. Does anyone know how this works (as in, how is it timed, how do you pick up your leg, etc.,)? The website doesn't have much info. We've both recently completed a half marathon.

Thanks!

I’d contact the race organiser directly. If they are advertising the event as a relay then they must have a pre-planned system in place for it. I’ve done relays but they have been out and backs.

Which magathon is it? I’ve done a lot so might know which one it is and how it works!

I've only seen people doing this, and they each had their own number and chip. They waited at defined points (Manchester had quarter and half options) on the course to hand over, and I think there was a relay chip as well.

CMOTDibbler it's the Manchester one I'm considering. That's great if you get your own chip too.

lastquvenofscotland - how did you find the relays? Thinking I'll have to adjust my training if I'm running second leg (timing pre race meal and drink!)

Undercoverbanana - good point! I'll do that too.

Ooo I don’t like big city marathons. They trigger my anxiety with all the noise and the fuss. Stick me in a field with a couple of hundred other people in the middle of nowhere, that’s my idea of a marathon. Good luck, OP.

See, I hate running in an event where theres no one to see - I like high fiving children, reading signs, and cheering others on. I'm slow though, so its about the experience for me

I haven't done a country marathon so I can't compare it but right now I'm in the same camp as CMOTDibbler. Loved seeing everyone out cheering and high-fiving the kids. Great fun!
