So, Dh and me driving along a road, ds in car also, driver comes out of a side road at speed and pushes us off the road.
He immediately appologises, swap details, take pics etc. He turns up at our house later with his dp and wants to do it without insurance, he has been driving a year and has has one accident already.

This makes me nervous but Dh says it will be ok, what does everyone think?

Nope. Go through insurance. Only been driving a year and reckless enough for two accidents already?

SlipperyLizard · 16/10/2018 11:38

You’re obliged to tell your insurer anyway, even if you don’t claim.

I wouldn’t - other driver needs to learn to take more care if he doesn’t want to claim on his insurance!

He sounds dangerous!

SlipperyLizard · 16/10/2018 11:39

I mean I wouldn’t do what he’s asking!

Go through insurance. Costs could be way more than he could afford and can he pay for a hire vehicle you'll likely need for the duration of the repairs??

Thanks guys, that's what I am thinking, have to persuade Dh now

Seriously, just go through your insurance. If he was so worried about the increase in his premium etc he should be driving safely in the first place.

I had an accident which sounded very similar earlier this year- I felt terrible about the affect on the other driver’s premium, but ultimately it’s why we pay for insurance in the first place.

I'd go through insurance. If he's having accidents, that's his fault if it pushes up the insurance premium.

And your costs could be high once damage is assessed. Will this chap cover the cost of a hire car? Time off?
