What are your favourite secret or hidden parts of London?

I live in the home counties and have decided that I don't make enough of my days off. I spent too much time pottering round the house and want to get out more.

I love London and am familiar with many parts of it but there must be more to see.

I've been to the big museums and galleries and love around Covent Garden, the Southbank, Trafalgar Square, Borough Market.

Where else can I go? What about smaller museums/galleries? Any tips very welcome!

Gardening museum at Lambeth (by Lambeth Bridge) - and I hate gardening!

Geffrye Museum of the Home in Shoreditch.

Another vote for Denis Severs.

Highgate, Abney Park and Kensal cemeteries.

I've done a couple of the London Walks - there's a bermondsey which was great and a spy one which was very dull!

Also Leighton House....beautiful.

The museum of London, one in barbican and one in docklands

The docklands one is seriously amazing.

Yy to Museum of London in Docklands, I think they've changed some of the displays recently and it's looking amazing. Freemasons' Hall in Covent Garden is interesting!
I love walking along the Thames Path on the north side of the river from London Bridge to Canary Wharf, the views across and down the river are fantastic.

Oh and the Horniman museum in Forest Hill is great. Big section of musical instruments, and a dear little aquarium with jellyfish.

The Magnificent Seven Cemeteries - I think Highgate or Brompton are probably my favourites; you could team up a trip to Brompton with a visit to Fulham Market Hall - lots of lovely food traders and a very nice place for lunch.

TheSageofOnions, as I posted upthread about the Geffrye, with a link, unfortunately it's closed for refurbishment until early 2020! Fab place to visit, but needs to be on the OP's bucket list in a couple of years time!!

Twickenham Riverside area is lovely. If you go by train, get off at Twickenham station and walk down to the river - hardly any distance - you can see, and have a wander round Eel Pie Island (there is also an Eel Pie Island Museum www.eelpiemuseum.co.uk just a couple of roads back from the river, but not on the island.

From the river you can walk downstream through York House Gardens with, IIRC, the most stunning fountain/waterfall. Carry on down Riverside. Stop for a drink/lunch at The White Swan. Carry on down Riverside into Orleans Gardens (there is also Orleans House Gallery www.orleanshousegallery.org).

And Orleans Gardens are immediately next to Marble Hill Park, where there is Marble Hill House www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/marble-hill-house/

Sadly it's too late in the year for the Hammertons (passenger) Ferry www.hammertonsferry.com to take you over to Ham side, where there is Ham House www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ham-house-and-garden, reputedly haunted!!

Get a boat from Central London - lots of piers, e.g. London Eye, - to Greenwich. It's part of TfL, only takes about half an hour. Then you can come back on the DLR, station right in the town centre near the Cutty Sark, and change somewhere convenient for the rest of your journey. Go through Brunel's foot tunnel under the river to the Isle of Dogs for a different perspective.
