Migraleve shortage

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, but I thought general health would be too quiet!
For the last couple of months I've been unable to buy Migraleve. Apparently there is a supply problem, although I've been unable to find anything about it on Google. All of my local chemists have sold out. I've been taking Boots own Paracetemol and Codeine, which is apparently all Migraleve is but they don't seem to work as well. Does anyone know what's going on and when they will be back in production?

@ErictheGuineaPig which is probably what lead to the shortages in the first place, no?

People shouldn't be taking these drugs without medical advice. It is not the same thing as buying cold and flu remedies. Migraine can be the symptom of something more serious, or need specific targeted medication you cannot get OTC.

MotorcycleMayhem · 09/02/2019 12:28

Migraine when you have one is worth an immediate appointment - at least according to my lovely GP receptionists.

Migraine when you dont have one can wait the few weeks or whatever it takes to discuss medication options.

Either way, it needs professional medical judgement - that's why I've posted the clinical guidance. I've been fighting to see a neurologist for the last 22 years and it's only now that I'm getting stroke symptoms, have exhausted all prophylaxis and the triptans bareky work, plus I am at risk of losing my job with my sick leave that they have agreed, but I have to wait 32 weeks for that.

Please, get your migraines treated properly, and don't rely on the wrong medicines. Migraleve is not a good medicine for migraine, according to NICE.

We have migralieve in my pharmacy, don't know if it's just because we don't sell a lot. It's just sumatriptan and your doctor can prescribe that for you instead.

What MotorcycleMayhem said - migraine is often badly treated, neurology clinics are overwhelmed and even there it isn't always taken seriously.

I absolutely think my migraine-related sickness formed part of the bullying I experienced in my workplace.

If you can afford it, self-funding to see a neurologist who specializes in migraine may be the best money you ever spent - has transformed my life but sadly too late for that workplace.

MotorcycleMayhem · 09/02/2019 13:38

@TescoValue Migraleve is not sumatriptan. You're thinking of Imigran.

TescoValue · 09/02/2019 13:47

@MotorcycleMayhem so I am! Everything is going in and out of stock at the moment OP. It's a bloody nightmare tbh!

SerendipityReally · 09/02/2019 16:24

Why does nobody go to the doctors? They can prescribe these drugs that are unbranded. So the same thing, essentially

I did. She said if OTC migraleve does the job, keep taking it. (I only buy the pink, to get the anti sickness bit.)

Sorry if I'm breaking forum rules about bumping threads, but thought I would let people here know.

About two hours ago, I picked up a pack of 12 pink only Migraleve at our local chemist while picking up my partners meds.

It was by chance, wasn't looking for them. I've been trying, like others here, to keep an eye on the net about the resupply issue. The chemist assistant said that they came in last week. Hope others can find some easily.

My partner hugged the pack when I brought it in! :)

Apologies if there's another thread mentioning this.

trynda1701 · 07/08/2019 13:55

So, has anyone who originally posted on this thread managed to pick up some Pink Migraleve tablets yet?

FortyFacedFuckers · 07/08/2019 16:15

I am desperate for them would love to keep if anyone else is getting them back in stock!

ImpossibleGirl86 · 07/08/2019 16:21

I noticed them behind the counter at the pharmacy in an Asda yesterday so might be worth a look

MissCharleyP · 07/08/2019 16:30

They’ve (thank God!) had them back in stock a few weeks here now. I was prescribed sumatriptan but a) it barely touched the pain and b) £9 for six tablets is just too expensive for as frequent as I get migraines. I’m going back to my GP this week to see if there are other alternatives. I didn’t know about codeine increasing headaches.
