Taking a newborn to the cinema

What are people’s thoughts on this?

DP is in paternity leave and we’re going a bit stir crazy with the rainy weather. We want to go to the cinema during the day today with two week old DD, with ear defenders, and she will just sleep throughout.

DP is convinced he’s seen people do this loads of times during daytime screenings. To me it just feels wrong, but I can’t actually put my finger on why. I’ve checked Vue’s policy and there’s no rules against it.

So long as you leave quickly if baby kicks off I don't see the problem.

MynameisJune · 15/10/2018 11:36

Some cinemas have special baby screenings so you can take young babies and it doesn’t matter if they vary because everyone there has a baby. Have a look for local ones near you but at 2 weeks I’d probably go to a normal screening they sleep so much at that age.

Why don’t you go to a baby screening? All big chains offer them. I wouldn’t take a newborn to a normal showing, it’s not fair on them (too noisy) or people that have paid to go. Go out to the pub for lunch instead, then come home and watch a movie!

Kids film yes.
Adult one, def not.
Nobody wants to hear your baby - as lovely as it may be!!
Or see you in /out of your seat /row if you have to leave /return.

Go to a baby screening somewhere

Nothisispatrick · 15/10/2018 11:43

No decent baby screenings near us, checked that already. We’ve had about 5 pub lunches in the past two weeks, would like to do something a bit different! The film would be Johnny English so not an adult film.

Plus she’s two weeks old, she doesn’t ‘kick off’. Squawks a bit when hungry and we feed her, then she goes back to sleep!

We've been a few times, has to be 12a or under, I prefer day time becuase there are less people. He loved oceans 8! They have baby screenings too which are lower volume and lights :)

Bunnyhop1502 · 15/10/2018 12:34

Have you tried Odeon Newbies?

Nothisispatrick · 15/10/2018 13:20

We’re not really near an odeon, and the ones we could drive to have a rubbish selection for newbies.

We’ve decided to go for it, I know DD isn’t going to cry throughout and the cinema will be practically empty. Happy to take the risk.

What rating is the film? She can only go into U or PG. Hope You enjoy it.

Stroller15 · 15/10/2018 14:06

If it's a daytime screening and you haven't got baby cinema near you, I would do it with a newborn. Like you said OP she feeds and sleeps. Currently have 4 week old ds2 here and enjoying the relatively less complicated newborn stage compared to my toddler ds1 who I can't take anywhere!

3WildOnes · 15/10/2018 14:06

When I took my baby to the baby screenings it could be any age rating, not just U and PG.

justchangingagain · 15/10/2018 16:11

What about the volume of the film? surely it far to loud for a baby.

P.S. have seen Johnny English, it's fun we enjoyed it.

WooYa · 15/10/2018 16:13

Do it! I took DS nearly every week when I was on mat leave. I just chucked him in a sling n off I went ☺️ he slept through so many films! They do advise you to sit at the end of the aisle so you can leave quickly if your DD finds her voice
