Spidies touching you (the big f*** off variety too )

The other night Dh was down stairs switching everything off when he said there's a massive spider by the phone. "thank goodness it's downstairs" I replied.

We read in bed of a while, then switched our bedside lights off. After a few minutes I felt something run across my ear. I jumped out of bed screaming, pulling my PJs off. Dh put the light back on and we saw a huge spider (with long extended front, wafting arms) on my pillow.

Don't know if it was the same spider, or we had a 'nest' as someone suggested later.

Bleugh. Bleugh.

Another story. My aunt was watching TV and kept itching her neck. Later she took her clothes off for bed and spider ran out of her top.

"front wafting arms" Grin Is that a technical term?

I can't sympathise because I live in Australia and regularly meet spiders which are either as big as a side plate or which could send me to hospital if they get too close.

So...deal with it! Grin

So you saw a huge spider downstairs .....and you didn't kill it ? What did you do - just commented about it and then went to bed ?

StylishDuck · 15/10/2018 08:23

OMG I'd never be able to sleep in that bed again ShockShockShock

FWIW I'm normally a calm rational person not in the least prone to hysterics but spiders are definitely my kryptonite Envy (not envy!) We moved this summer from a flat to a house and the number of spiders we've had has been horrific.

I had to wake up DH the other night to remove a massive one from the bathroom sink when I got up for a pee. He wasn't best pleased Blush It had those massive wafting front arms too. Great description btw.

Neshoma · 15/10/2018 08:59

Stella It was stuck behind the phone table and Dh cba. We thought we'd be safe upstairs.

I don't hate spidies as such - just not next to my face. In the dark. running across my head.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. Woke in the night with a tickle between my nose and eye. I thought it was my hair so pushed my hair away from my face. Tickle still there, I touched my face, felt something odd between my fingers and I shot out of bed Shock
DP told me I was dreaming, no I bloody wasn’t!! He got up to go to the loo and I put a light on, there it was a spider, now dead but a spider all the same, on my pillow. Envy I had to wash my hands and face and take the pillowcase off and check the bedroom in case there were anymore lurking Hmm

Threewheeler1 · 15/10/2018 09:34

TillyVonMilly ShockOn your face!!! Aaaaaaargggh!
That's horrific...but I suppose at least it didn't go into your mouth or ear....Grin (Sorry, that wasn't actually funny and I've guaranteed nightmares for myself tonight by even saying it...)
But ooh yes, I've had spiders in the bed too and crawling out of my clothes after putting them on.
Had a massive one crawl out of the hood of my dressing gown last week.
I was standing in the kitchen, half asleep at 6 am, only one small light on, waiting for the kettle to boil, when I saw my 'hair' moving out of the corner of my eye Shock
It obviously wasn't my hair but the very long legs of a huge spider as it made it's way over my shoulder. I flicked it into the sink and it won't be coming back now.
My fluffy dressing gown hasn't felt as comforting since.
We get whoppers here and it's been out of control lately. I just want one safe, spider free, hermetically sealed room that I can retreat to!
They seem to like hiding on the riser parts of the stairs at the moment, so when you're going down (in bare feet) you only spot the massive hairy bastards when your foot is next to them.

TillyVonMilly · 15/10/2018 09:42

I spent a long time worrying about one being in my mouth Shock
I’m bound to jinx myself by saying this but I’ve not seen an eight legged bastard for a couple of weeks and to be honest we didn’t seem to have as many as usual Confused I’m not sure if they’re better at hiding or are sticking to midnight manoeuvres due to safety reasons Smile

Threewheeler1 · 15/10/2018 12:42

Tilly
I like the idea of 'midnight manoeuvres', makes them sound like a miniature crack SAS team! Grin
Still nasty buggers though. I've tried all sorts of things in an effort to like them but there's no hope, they'll always end up in that hoover pipe.
DH is unbelievably rubbish at getting them. He moves really slowly, absolutely not getting the 'kill the bastard!' urgency, by which time the scary sheister has gone under the sofa or a big, immovable piece of furniture. Then I can't stay in the room knowing it's lurking, ready to fling itself at me when I let my guard down, so I see exactly what you mean about it being unsettling not seeing them Grin

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 15/10/2018 12:48

I had one run along my arm when I was lying in bed reading once.

I flung my arm out so fast...my book flew across the room and I smashed my hand against the wall.

The adrenaline that was pumping through my body meant I then couldn't sleep for hours.

KittyLover91 · 15/10/2018 12:52

Im sat at work shudderingggg!

I havent had any encounters yet so far but id bet my life on it after reading this i will!

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 15/10/2018 13:01

Not had any big spiders in the house this year - don't know why/don't care why.
Lying in bed, feeling quite smug, thinking they can't walk up the brass bed-frame (?).
Yeah - but they can walk up the walls, across the ceiling and abseil down Shock

PositivePeach · 15/10/2018 17:15

Many years ago, when I was a teen. Me and my BF had been to the local chip shop. I was leaning in a doorway eating my chips and BF says- eurgh there's a massive spider. I screamed and got out of the doorway. Friends checked me, all good, no spider on me.

I get home and talking to DM in the kitchen and I'm playing with my hair (I used to wear it in one of those buns with the hair sticking out of the top) thinking, my hair feels crispy, must be the hairspray. It wasn't!! THE HUGE SPIDER WAS ON MY HEAD!!!!

I don't know how I had the guts to do it, adrenaline took over I think, but I grabbed it and threw it on the floor and DM stamped on it. It was huuuuge. One of those big hairy, fat bodied ones. It must have been 20 years ago and it still makes me shudder now. I hate spiders!

AngeloMysterioso · 16/10/2018 00:23

3rd week in new flat, in bed. Had just turned off the light and lay down, felt something tickle the back of my neck. Felt back there assuming it was my hair but nope, hair was tied up. Leaned up and turned the light on just to make sure it wasn’t a spider... fucking great big fucker sitting on my pillow, looking right at me. I leapt out of bed, it crawled down the side of my bed and then under the entire length of my bed and shot out right in front of me, eventually disappearing behind my bookcase. I sat sleeping up, in the corner of my bed, with a hoodie drawn up round my face.
