Another one. In bed as a child and for some reason I was sharing with my sister. She was on the outside but asked me to switch because 'the eyes were scaring her'. I didn't believe her at first but she was only little (4 or 5, which made me about 9) so I swapped with her.

Sure enough, there were a set of eyes staring up at me from the carpet. (Cream, no pattern, nothing there to trick the mind) pretty sure we both just hid under the covers until morning! Same carpet used to develop weird red/brown splotches which no-one could explain too.

I always used to hate going down the stairs in that house. I always felt like something (a big evil dog) was following me and just waiting to pounce.

This thread is definitely not bedtime reading, afternoon is fine, sort off...!

crochetmonkey74 · 17/10/2018 12:49

ooh I love these threads.
I have one from years ago-
We had a downstairs bathroom in our house at the time, I had woken and gone downstairs. I was very awake as it was in January and the bit leading to the bathroom was very draughty due to our back door being a stable door that was old and cracked.
On the way back to the stairs, I looked into our living room and saw AS CLEAR AS DAY a woman sitting on our settee looking at the mantelpiece wearing an anorak. She looked like a middle aged woman, dressed in the style of the 1980s but frumpy, not fashionable. Like someone's mum. She did not know I was there. There was clear light in the living room as there was a streetlight right outside and we had horizontal blinds that we left slightly open. I stood and stared at her for approx 9-12 seconds. I blinked and she was still there, the she sort of slowly faded and turned into the settee cushions. She looked so solid. I was not scared at all- I went back to bed and slept actually- but I did keep the living room door shut from then on at night!

For the people who have heard talking or music... I can't remember the exact details but I remember learning before that some electrical appliances (maybe a fan etc) can sometimes faintly pick up a radio frequency and play radio stations etc.

I'm sure it was on Reddit or something, but someone was convinced they were being haunted by murmuring voices in their bedrooms and it turned out it was coming from a fan or something else plug-in in their house!

We stayed in a hotel that used to be a nunnery last summer. It was beautiful.
Every morning very early we would hear people walking past our door, around 6am very quietly. I assumed it was the staff getting up to set up breakfast. It wasn't. There was nothing beyond our room's corridoe but a fire escape that wasn't used. There were other guests on the corridor but they generally breakfasted after us.
DH also complained about me poking him in the back all night.
I wasn't. I told him it was a randy 200 year old nun ghost. It might have been, it certainly wasn't me.
He didn't believe me. He doesn't believe in woo. The concierge told him that the ghosts of nuns are sometimes seen. DH still thinks it's all bunkum.

We used to live in an old farmhouse when the DC were aged 2-5yo. There was a huge sash window at the landing going up the stairs and each night on their way to bed we'd stop and say goodnight to the man on the moon. My DS especially wouldn't pass that window without waving and his imaginary friend Charlie waved too. Charlie had been around from my son was 3. I never thought anything about it until we were moving and DH found a couple of old photos in the attic when we were clearing our things to move. They weren't our photos, but old black and white ones with a family of 3 in them. My then 5 year old picked one up from the kitchen table and shouted to his sister "look, look it's the man in the moon and Charlie" 😳 My children are adults now and still remember playing with Charlie who lived in a cupboard at the top of our stairs. My daughter insists Charlie was her cuddly dog my son refuses to discuss it all. Charlie stayed behind when we moved.

When I researched the house and it's history I discovered a woman had died when her child was approx 4 years of age in the house and the father of the child had left the area after her death. The child had moved in with relatives in the area and drowned in a nearby river a few years later. I left the photographs in the house when we left but I remember the woman looking quite masculine in them and often wonder who my children waved to every night.

My grandfather claimed he wrestled all night with a demon and lived to tell the tale. The next morning he was covered in scratches.

My grandfather was also overly fond of his liquor.

The two things may not be unrelated...

I used to do guided tours around my beautiful native city and one of our stops was a very old church with a huge grave yard. There is an area that is locked due to strange activities that have happened there over the years. One night someone in the group said they saw a figure moving in the locked area, it could have been the trees, we all looked, the hairs on my neck stood up and we moved on. It was the only time I felt there was something odd, but then the power of suggestion can be very strong.

I worked in a fairly modern bungalow for adults with learning disabilities. I was having handover with a colleague when a resident walked past me into the next room. I rolled my eyes at my colleague and nodded towards the doorway in exasperation as this person liked to eavesdrop on the handover to try to hear information about other residents. I went into the room expecting her to be behind the door - nothing. Turned out she was nowhere near (neither was anyone else) and no other exits from the room. I can still picture her brushing past me, yellow jumper and blue trousers. My colleague was baffled, and thought I'd lost my mind as she saw nothing at all other than me acting oddly!

Same house shortly afterwards I was in bed on asleep on duty (we worked 25 hours at a time sleeping at work). I was asleep and felt a hand on my leg give me a gentle shake. I woke and said, 'Are you okay? What's wrong?' thinking it was a resident needing help. Again, no-one there. But I felt it clear as day, and wasn't having dreams, wasn't spooked, nothing. I wasn't even spooked afterwards really, just a bit weirded out. I am CERTAIN I didn't dream it or imagine the first event.

I am not probe to fancy, or imagining things and would be the first to hold my hands up if I could think of any explanation.

tinatsarina · 28/10/2018 13:53

Mine happened the other night. I came up to bed after turning everything off downstairs. My partner woke up the next morning and came down to find the living room light and the TV on. Thing is he got up to get water in the night and everything was off.

CanYouHearMeAtTheBack · 31/10/2018 22:53

Bumping hoping for a few more!

Finally caught up on this thread!

I have a couple but I'm not a great story teller so they probably don't seem very scary, though they have always stayed with me.

Both happened as a child though I can't remember my age at the time.

Went to stay in my aunt and uncles caravan near Cromer, Norfolk (I think). It wasn't a permanent caravan but their own that they had towed there and left on a camping/caravan site. I needed a wee before bed and had to walk to the toilet block. At a guess I was about 12 as my mum didn't offer to come with me. I was almost at the toilet block and I saw a man with a small dog on a lead walking towards me. There was some light coming from the toilet block but the man and his dog had no colour. They were just a dark white/light grey. I didn't have a 'bad' feeling but I felt uneasy and shivered, it freaked me out and I ran the rest of the way to the toilet block. (About 10 seconds.) It was like I felt safe in the light. I turned around from the entrance and couldn't see the man and his dog. Though that could have just been coincidence if they were real. It could have been my imagination but I wasn't scared about walking to the toilet on my own in the dark, so I'm not sure why I would have imagined this! I ran back to the caravan because I still felt creeped out. Though I didn't feel like they wanted to harm me. I didn't tell my parents though.

I think the reason I didn't tell them is because their reaction to my next 'creepy' experience was that I was dreaming. (It happened before the Cromer one).

I'm not sure how old I was but I was in primary school. My parents had friends that had a second house in Hastings. It was a weird triangular shape and based over 3 floors from what I remember. My family (mum, dad and me) arrived earlier than my parents friends, in the afternoon. It was pre-arranged that the neighbour with the spare key let us in. My parent's friends had the bedroom on the top floor. My parents were sleeping on a futon in the living room on the middle floor. I was sleeping on a blow up bed in the same room. We all went to bed about 11pm. That night I could not get to sleep. I know I wasn't a sleep. I could see/feel a person/presence in the corner of the room. My parents were asleep and I was terrified. I could tell it was evil. I couldn't move (like I was paralysed) all I could feel was its evil eyes watching me. It felt like it hated me and wanted in me at the same time. My parents friends came in (I think about 1am) after driving down from London. Them coming in seemed to break my paralysis. I jumped off of my bed and woke my mum up, sobbing that there was someone/something (not sure of my exact words) was in the room trying to get me. My mum was very loving and caring but ultimately she brushed it off as a bad dream. Despite me telling her I never fell asleep. I definitely did not fall asleep!! Hence me not telling her about the less scary ghost man and dog that happened a couple of years later!
