Art award - please help!

Art is not dd's strong point and it always takes her ages and ages to get it done! She will soon be doing the Bronze Art Award through school, and needs to pick an artist to research and study. As part of this, she will need to copy (sketch) a lot of the artist's work, and she is eager to find someone whose work she can copy relatively easily so that it doesn't take hours and hours away from her other subjects. She isn't planning to choose art as one of her options!

She is not allowed to opt out of doing the award, so please could anyone suggest some relatively simple artists who she could consider? I understand that illustrators are also an option, she said she would like to learn how to draw "something cute".

She will also have to learn/develop a new skill as part of the award. Any suggestions on skills that she could consider that don't involve drawing or painting? She is actually very creative in other ways, but drawing and painting just aren't her thing!

TIA!

Does it have to be Art art if you know what I mean. Ours could do photography, drama, dance, music, cake decorating etc, not just drawing or painting.

If she can study illustrators then how about Quentin Blake? There are YouTube videos showing his techniques that may help her copy his style.

If she would prefer an artist then maybe Frida Kahlo. If she is creative in other ways can she crochet? There is a blanket pattern called Frida's Flowers (see photo) that could be turned into a cushion cover. Alternatively use elements of her designs to create collages or mosaics.

Kandinsky or Klee

AlexaShutUp · 14/10/2018 17:41

Wow! Thank you so much for all the responses - really appreciate all of your suggestions.

Sadly, shouldwe, it does have to be art. She would be in seventh heaven if dance or drama were allowed!Grin But apparently not.

I will look into all of your suggestions with her, and see what she might like to do. I did suggest Quentin Blake but this was rejected as she thought they would be too hard to copy. Looking for Youtube tutorials is a genius idea!🙂

Matisse? Not what I'd call cute but some of the pieces are easy enough to copy.

ApolloandDaphne · 14/10/2018 17:56

Not cute but what about an abstract artist such as Mondrian? His paintings might be much easier to copy.

Reaa · 14/10/2018 17:58

Axel Scheffler And The Gruffalo or another of his as they are all animals and cute.

Personally I love Zog

ScreamingValenta · 14/10/2018 18:00

Some of Marc Chagall's paintings are very cute, and I don't think they'd be too hard to copy.

JC4PMPLZ · 14/10/2018 18:02

Bridget Roley, or some other op art. Or some Malevich...black square.....etc

JC4PMPLZ · 14/10/2018 18:02

Riley not roley.....

Insomnibrat · 14/10/2018 18:05

Johanna Basford

DameFanny · 14/10/2018 18:05

If illustrators, how about Vivianne Schwartz? She's illustrated children's stuff plus some solo stuff including a zine on anxiety. "I am Henry Finch" is based on fingerprints, drawing wise, so that might count as a skill?

AlexaShutUp · 14/10/2018 18:18

Thank you all for all of these suggestions - some great ideas, and some artists that I'd never even heard of! Will go through these suggestions with dd and see what takes her fancy!

Keith Haring? Easy graphic style. Bold primary colours

Mumteedum · 14/10/2018 18:22

Or Gillian Wearing. Been copied a lot in pop culture www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/wearing-signs-that-say-what-you-want-them-to-say-and-not-signs-that-say-what-someone-else-66092

Mumteedum · 14/10/2018 18:23

Or what about Banksy? Very in the news!

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 14/10/2018 18:25

If comic strips count - and why not? - what about something along the lines of Snoopy or Garfield? The originality might win her a few brownie points.

Spartacunt · 14/10/2018 18:34

Patrick Caufield or Victor Passmore

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 14/10/2018 18:43

Andy Goldsworthy
Autumn is a great time to get out and make leaf circles of different colours
And shapes from stones
Then photograph them..hard to overwork or spend too much time on

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 14/10/2018 18:44

And photography could be her new skill ?

smallfootpercy · 14/10/2018 22:01

Is photography allowed? If so look up Slinkachu. Very cute, very funny!
