Good quality backpack as a handbag - recommendations?

I use a backpack instead of a handbag. I have a lovely leather one that I've had donkey's years and it still looks nice but it only has one compartment so I'm forever fishing about in it, plus it's a bit big for an 'everyday' bag.

I've been through loads of cheap pleather ones but they never last long.

I need a good one, with at least a couple of compartments/pockets. It has to be zip-closed, not drawstring or buckle. And it has to be waterproof or at least water resistant, as I wear it in all weathers. And I'd like it to look nice - like a handbag, rather than a rucksack.

Ideas please?

Kipling are good. Mine does look like a rucksack but I think they do one that converts from bag to rucksack by zipping down the strap. I've had mine a long time and love it as it's machine washable and it comes up looking like new.

Doesn't really answer the question, but I find it helps to carry a bag within a bag, to put smaller/important items in – a smallish zipped one so I don't have to do the fishing about in it thing.

I was wondering about Kipling, but what are they like in the rain? They definitely have plenty of pockets!

Tumi do some lovely really well made bags. They're expensive but beautiful. I'll put a picture of the current black leather one they do.

Kipling bags are waterproof.

There are also some imitation Kipling bags on Amazon which are just as good if you're not bothered about the brand.

I have a lovely knomo beauchamp backpack in navy. It's slim and smart but roomy. Lovely quality too.

The Jobis ones look lovely, lots of pockets and a nice shape, but I can't find any new ones. There are some nice used ones though so I'll keep my eye out. Thanks Carbuncle (love the name!)

Unexpected trip to town today, so I got to go in TKMaxx... they didn't have the Jobis one but I had an hour to browse, so I came home with a Gigi grey leather backpack, loads of pockets, absolutely gorgeous, £39.99 Grin

(would post link but it's not on their website)

Hi.
The two that never let down are my north face one (so many pockets and key clips etc) and my cath kidston. Lots of pockets and both protect my stuff from rain.

TheWiseWomansFear · 16/10/2018 18:45

I have an excellent Wenger one from John Lewis

Corcra · 16/10/2018 18:45

Well that’s just great. Now I’ve looked through all the recommendations and I want them all!! 💜

BananaBonanza · 16/10/2018 18:47

Can I second the advice above and keep the bag you love but use a bag organiser (or two or three). Makes it easier switch between bags and easier to find anything loose

oopslateagain · 16/10/2018 21:24

Oh don't worry Banana I'm keeping my favourite bag (I'm on the Decluttering thread for a reason - I don't throw things away!) It's just not designed for a bag organiser, it's hard to describe but it's sort of triangle shaped with the zip up one of the sides so you'd have to actually get the bag organiser right out in order to get anything out of it. I have two bag organisers and I do use them, just not in this bag.
