A Happy ( unimportant ) Announcement!

I posted under my old name about 2 years ago about my mother. She’d been rescuing hopeless case dogs since we were kids, successfully. Her last dog, a springer spaniel dumped on her doorstep in a horrible state ( traumatised and snappy ) had been with her 12 years and became a fab pet, had died from cancer and she was heartbroken and said she was too old ( 61 ) to take on anymore young dogs with issues. She’s announced she has a new plan....adopting elderly dogs who are as tired as her and giving them a nice home to end their years in ☺️. She cares for my dad who is now very disabled, but feels she is able to cope with a senior who needs short walks, hugs and snacks! Pointless thread, but wee good deeds can lift you up. Very proud of her.

She sounds lovely OP.

Aw, what a lovely lady

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 14/10/2018 01:44

That is lovely but a word of caution: one of my neighbours does this and her vet bills are horrendous. She has actually got into thousands of pounds of debt debt paying for treatment for these dogs. The charity she gets them from are forever giving her more as they know she won't say know and she struggles financially and practically because of it. I'm sure your mum has her boundaries intact though, and hope it brings her happiness.

How lovely op ☺️

FreddyFasbear · 14/10/2018 01:45

Thank you. She loves her sad case dogs! Rescued so many over the years ( who ended up staying ) and rehomed one with a lovely family as we had a big breed rescue already! I’m so glad some wee elderly dog in a centre is about to get the life out many dogs had Smile

Sorry for the rogue debt there.Blush

FreddyFasbear · 14/10/2018 01:47

Thank you for mentioning the vet bills, lots of people do forget! I will pay the insurance I am more comfortable than mum is. Definitely recommend pet insurance, even if it’s £50 a month, still cheaper than a vet!

It's probably the dogs my neighbour gets rather than all dogs, but she can't get insurance for them because they all have pre existing conditions by the time they come to her.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 14/10/2018 01:50

And pet insurance doesn't cover pre existing conditions.

That’s lovely. I plan to home a few oldies when I’m a bit older. Although in my 60’s I’m planning to travel so after that. Well done her, older dogs are so overlooked.
