Flu vaccine - many pharmacies now offer them to older children!

I think many people are not aware of this. So if your child is too old to get it on the NHS, and you want to get it done anyway, it’s now easier. Boots, for example, offer it to children aged 10 plus for £12.99.

Great thank you! Tried to get this for my children last year and nowhere would do it. Will book then in.

My 12 year old was vaccinated in Boots yesterday

I think Superdrug do children as well for £9.99.

Is this the spray or injection?

SofiaAmes · 14/10/2018 16:15

The spray has been shown to be very ineffective. I'm not sure it's even around any more.

redsummershoes · 14/10/2018 16:19

the spray is effective. but last season the flu strain prediction was not very good.
thar happens very rarely though, usually that prediction is quite acurate. hope is that this year the flu virus doing it's rounds is one of those included in the vaccines.

redsummershoes · 14/10/2018 16:20

the spray is quite expensive. it would be a lot more than a tenner per person.

Our kids get the spray at primary school, not sure what happens at high school. Under 5s have to go to the nurse to get the spray.

Aragog · 14/10/2018 16:25

Our local pharmacist (Weldricks) will no longer give the flu vaccination (injection) to under 16s. They did last year. Luckily dd is now 16y so could have one. Was around £10.

The spray is still available - they do it at school to the right age groups. Our school is doing them tomorrow.

Beingginger · 14/10/2018 16:48

Tesco vaccinate children over 12 and it’s £9.
Our local CCG give the spray to all primary aged children.

Ah, you are right, I see the nasal spray is back on the ok list for this season. My ds has health conditions that preclude the nasal spray (we discovered after a bad reaction to it), so I haven't been following it too closely.
