Online selling and postage

Trying to sell some stuff online and a lot of people are asking me to use Hermes as they're cheaper. I have always used royal mail recorded as I have proof it has been delivered then. My Hermes courier is rubbish and just chucks parcels in the vicinity of the house/doesn't deliver at all! I'm just waiting to know, as a seller through PayPal will I be covered with the receipt I get sending the parcel through Hermes rather than Royal mail recorded delivery. I'm worried about sending it and having no proofing the buyer says they haven't received it.

I've just booked Hermes as they are half the price of Royal Mail so I will be watching this with interest.

It's often only £1 cheaper with Hermes. Is this buyers hassling you to send by cheaper courier? Seems weird, that they fuss over £1.

AFAIK Hermes is as guaranteed as RMail recorded, but slightly different pricing structure, so check the weight/size of your parcel to set the 'postage' price.

If you send with hermes you get a tracking number, similar to royal mail recorded. So you'll be protected if the buyer tries to say it hasn't arrived and it has, as you'll have the tracking as proof.

I'm clueless about it all so I'm sorry for the stupid question. I know royal mail do standard/recorded/special delivery, is this the same for Hermes? Buyer said they find Hermes much cheaper and to use them. Is it a case of needing recorded to protect myself or is a receipt for standard postage sufficient?

Even the cheapest Hermes postage includes tracking. You can, for an additional cost, ask for a signature, but tracking alone would help stop any item not received messages.

Great, thank you for the help Smile

I've had hermes deliveries that were apparently signed for by me while I was out at work , and it turns out they'd put it in a neighbour's blue bin, so I'm not totally sure the tracking is trustworthy.

I wouldn't use Hermes unless you want lots of bother as they often say a parcel is delivered when it isn't. It usually.turns up days later once your buyer has already started a missing parcel process or a game.of hide and seek locates it in some odd place. As the sender you are the one who has to deal with them.

I've never had trouble posting with Hermes. They are huge b/c the lowest price, so you heard a lot of complaints, but they are still the most used courier in spite of that bad rep. So not sure their % of bad deliveries is truly worse than others.

See this was my worry. They are awful in my area but the buyer said they have never had a problem and suggested Hermes. I'm really new to selling stuff and haven't a clue !
