Norovirus from Center Parcs

Has anyone else suffered like this? We went for a mid-week break to Longleat and on Friday night all came down with vomiting and diarrhoea.

I'm tempted to contact them and ask about their pool hygiene policies! (But not until I have regained control of my digestive system!)

Meh, unfortunate but it’s a virus that is mainly transmitted through vomit. If you are unfortunate to be in the vicinity of someone vomiting with it there’s a fair chance you’ll get it.
Hope you feel better soon.

Ha, everyone we go to centre parcs the kids come back with some sort of diesese from the pool. Had D&V, chicken pox and heavy cold virus thingy.
But TBH it doesn’t seem I clean to me. And how aye centre parcs supposed to police the wellness of all visitors. It’s what happens when you have hundreds of humans in a pool heated above 30 degrees. It’s a human soup.
But we always have a great time and we now laughingly all place bets on what we will catch this time.
But it’s no worse risk than an aeroplane or an all inclusive resort abroad etc.
That said I am hesitating about taking my new born swimming if we go in the spring.

Sorry for all the typos. And yes hope you feel better soon.

Hi- yes, we all did last time we went to the one at Woburn. Very 🤢

CraftyGin · 13/10/2018 17:14

Wash your hands

SequinsAndStillettos · 13/10/2018 17:14

So it seems we're not alone then!

We had such a lovely time - it was our first visit but this has taken the shine off it!

Norovirus can be caught anywhere, shops, bars, restaurants, hotels, buses, anywhere where people go, it's not confined to public pools, it's horrible but hope you feel better soon. This is why I always take antibacterial wipes, wash my hands, wipe down surfaces with antibacterial wipes, don't use public facilities unless i have too and rarely eat out.

PineapplePen07 · 13/10/2018 17:29

Yes my ds and I both developed a vomiting bug a few hours after we came back from Woburn. I suspect it was the pool but we didn't report it as no way to prove it.

Lauresbadhairday · 13/10/2018 17:52

Holey you do realise that antibacterial wipes not effective against norovirus as it's a virus not a bacteria. Handwashing with good old fashioned soap and water and avoid touching your face is the best way to avoid noro

Sympathies OP. Hope you're all better soon.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 13/10/2018 18:12

Problem is that noro aerosolises in vomit, so hard to contain. To me it’s inevitible in an environment with such a high population density and fetid toddlers.
It is such a pest and can put such a damper on things.

OrangePeppers · 13/10/2018 18:31

It’s likely to be from the pool - if someone vomits in it or has been ill eith diarrhoea recently and goes in the pool they are likely to have norovirus particles on them that the. Transfer to the pool. Norovirus is a stubborn virus that the pool water won’t kill, so it spreads really easily. Could easily be caught from soft play or a restaurant too, but as you all cane down with it at around the same time it’s likely to have been from the pool.

And whoever said using antibacterial gel or wipes helps - it’s a waste of time because a tibaxtwial stuff won’t kill noro. Only bleach will kill it or a specially formulated cleaner (there are some available online). Hand washing is your bet defence against it and bleaching things regularly.

PillowOfSociety · 13/10/2018 18:37

Bleaugh.

I do think you should tell them. All
Families, if everyone goes down with it at once, and tell them what facilities and restaurants you used.

It might help them track / trace regular sources of infection.

PoptartPoptart · 13/10/2018 18:41

My family have been to CP’s 4 times, Longleat, Elevden (x2) and Woburn.
Not once has any of us caught anything.

CherryPavlova · 13/10/2018 18:44

We went many, many times without issues. Norovirus and other similar vomiting bugs are not likely to be down to the swimming pool. Far more likely from sitting next to someone whose unwell or poor handwashing practice.

SpannerInTheWorks · 13/10/2018 18:45

Not noro but the two times we went to Longleat both kids woke up vomiting on the second night :(

Have been to others in the UK and Europe without issues

Friend calls it "center pukes" as everyone seems to get ill from the pool

EscapeToTheMoon · 13/10/2018 18:48

Ive been to CP 16 times and NEVER got such a thing .

TomHardysNextWife · 13/10/2018 18:48

Anywhere with such a high turnover of visitors is going to be a petri dish of bacteria, to be honest. I wouldn't take newborns or anyone with a compromised immune system.
