If England was to be hit by a storm/hurricane like those in Florida.....

What would happen to us? I know in America these storms are their ‘norm’ and many have tornado shelters etc and when they know these massive storms are coming they are evacuated..... they get sent inland for example. But what would happen if we had one coming? We live on a relatively small island (compared to America) and we wouldn’t actually have anywhere really to evacuate to? What would happen if we were hit by one?

Just thinking ... as you do.

Good question op,god there's some right headmistress on here today

I hope I'm not included in the 'headmistress' bit there (for example my 'fucking middle' comment was in direct response to the poster above me's descriptor of there they lived)! My comments are definitely in the 'interested in the question and trying to join the debate even though in Wales' section. I think my first comment about how crap it would be here in the UK is held out by tonight's news. Where I live in the west of Wales is in real trouble tonight, as I pointed out our topography leaves us very vulnerable as the water runs down to the lowest point. This is after winds not even gusting at the highest sustained speeds in America and just a fraction of the rain and storm surge. Worst flooding in 30 years. Very tragically one person has lost their life due to a landslide.

I do wonder how much our geography has been shaped by the lack of these huge storms making land fall here as opposed to the flatter lands in Florida. Still think a lot of buildings would have been badly wrecked with such sustained wind speeds as they had over there.
