Is this a scam?

Have an email this morning purporting to be from itunes, saying that under new legislation I need to add my date of birth to my password.

I'm fairly sure the GDPR didn't ask companies to collect additional personal information, so a bit baffled really - my head says scam.

Has anyone else had similar?

This is almost certainly a scam.
Delete the email

Sounds like a scam to me.

When you log into iTunes it will ask you for a new password if this is true.

I have not been asked for dob in password for anything.

Most iTunes emails are scams.

What legitimate reason could there be for asking for your password? obvious scan.

I got it. Think it my be kosher as there was no link to click and it used my name it my email address. . Then I thoght- bonus, less junk mail. So ignored it anyway.

i would say scam. I have never heard of anywhere asking for a password to contain info like a date of birth. I would delete and ignore. If you log in through the proper, official app and it prompts you for a new password,t hat's the only way i'd advise changing it

Using your name and email address isn’t a sign of it being authentic. That’s easy information to find.

TheClaws · 13/10/2018 08:06

A reputable company should never ask for your details in this way. Checking the email, can you see spellling errors? Odd addresses? Is it asking you to to click on a strange link? These are the hallmarks of phishing.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 13/10/2018 08:07

Gah, ignore the mistakes, suffering from the iPad curse on mn. The email I got said if I didn't add my dob, they couldn't send any more emails. Fine by me.

JellySlice · 13/10/2018 08:09

Don't password guidelines specifically recommend not using personal information - such as date of birth - in passwords?

Scam.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 13/10/2018 08:19

Oddly enough if appeared to be a correctly spelled email using natural English crow, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's dodgy.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Smile
