Parking in Cirencester (not exactly an exciting question)

DD has just started working in Cirencester town centre. We're not familiar with parking spots other than the 2-3 Pay & Display places, one of which is costing her £6.50 a day (which I appreciate may not be much to some people in cities, but it's over £30 a week DD could do with). Can any local people help with suggestions - street parking if necessary. She has found one at a very reasonable £2.00 a day but it's a 20 minute walk to workplace (will obviously have to do if nowhere else!) but thought I'd ask anyway, just in case of MN insider knowledge!

Nobody from Cirencester around on MN?

Have you looked on Parkopedia? It will show locations and prices of all car parks. Or what about one of the rent my drive sites?

Can she ask her colleagues where they park? I'm assuming the Waitrose and Tesco carparks all have 4hr limits? Can you look at residential streets on Google maps and look on street view to see what parking is like? I remember Cirencester being a pain for parking and getting caught out when I didn't read that the parking fee in one carpark was per half hour when I'd automatically assumed it was for an hour.

I work and live in Cirencester - there is free parking on Watermoor road where paternoster school is. I usually get in for about 8.15 and always find a parking. It's about a 10 minute walk into town. Hope that helps x

Good suggestions. Thank you all. Off to do more detailed research based on this new information!

Is she working Mon to Fri office hours?

SassitudeandSparkle · 13/10/2018 19:44

I think there are a couple of free car parks at the weekend but that's no good if she works Mon-Fri. It is tricky for parking.

EastMids2 · 13/10/2018 19:48

DD is working shifts, so both week days and weekends. Thanks again for responses.

I used to live there with no drive (fun) and used to battle for parking. If no luck on Watermoor Rd, try The Avenue, Chester st. and adjacent residential streets - a lot of it is time restricted / permit holders but there are stretches of free parking here and there if you get in quick (as residents leave for work!).

Can she cycle? I live in a nearby village 7 miles away and when I was a teen and had a holiday job the most cost effective way was to cycle in. Otherwise I’d park in the brewery as it’s free after 3, but you’re still paying £6. I think the road by Waitrose, and trinity road are all free road parking?

keenoonvino · 13/10/2018 19:54

St.James’ Place is free on the weekend, as well as the council offices

keenoonvino · 13/10/2018 19:55

Out of interest, where is the one that’s £2 a day?!

ellesbellesxxx · 13/10/2018 19:57

I am guessing the £2 a day is in the Beeches? On street parking is very rare to find at peak times so to be honest that would be my best bet.

EastMids2 · 13/10/2018 19:58

Keenoonvino - cycling not an option, she lives 20 miles away! Will check out St James Place and Council Offices for weekend free spaces. Thanks.

I was also going to say that SJP is free on weekends. Streets I know of with no parking restrictions are Watermoor Rd, Victoria Rd, and the little streets connecting the two like King Street. Right down the very bottom of Watermoor is sometimes a good shout.

Be very careful about parking in council car parks and overrunning your time, the traffic wardens are very militant.
