St Ives at Halloween

Hello everyone, if you live in or near to St Ives do you think you could help, please? I don’t know what to do with my 7 and 8 year olds on Wednesday 31st October?

We’re in St Ives for half term. It just didn’t dawn on me when we were booking that it was over Halloween and they’re missing a great party at home.

Would you advise that I take them trick or treating? Or is there something else on that we might be able to do/get tickets to?

I will take stuff for them to dress up in, and maybe take a couple of 🎃 but other than that, am stuck

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Anyone, please?

I know it’s boring thread - should it be somewhere else, not it in chat?

Bumping for you.

Cornwall or Cambridgeshire?!

Perhaps you could post in the appropriate MN Local page?

I’m just bumping for myself 🙂
Should we just drive to a residential area (I mean somewhere on the outskirts a bit) and start knocking doors I actually fucking hate Halloween. Why the hell have we adopted it so enthusiastically?

There's a pumpking carving competition at the Sloop Studios they might like OP -www.stives-cornwall.co.uk/events/pumpkin-carving-competition-sloop-studios/

If you are staying in the centre of town there should be a reasonably good atmosphere for just wandering about in costume - could always let them dress up and take them to the arcade for a bit of fun, otherwise there's guided lantern ghostwalks which start at 7pm from Westcotts Quay on the 30th and 31st that might be a laugh, lasts about an hour and a half I think. As far as I know you just turn up and pay then and there, it's a regular thing.

I don't know how successful you'll be with the trick or treating really, i don't know how appreciated it would be and also St Ives is so tourist laden a lot of property can be empty out of season, not to mention the outskirts of town are pretty hilly.

For stuff in the day outside of St Ives halloween themed stuff should be easy to find. The national trust properties usually do trails and similar.Paradise park down the road in Hayle, flambards, the maritime museum at falmouth, eden project ( all driveable distance) have various halloween bits on for the half term week.

Otherwise if the weathers truly crap i'd maybe see what's on at the cinema, either in St Ives or in Pezance, maybe there's something spooky but age appropriate, or have a night in with some 'scary' movies and snacks and pumpkin carving/crafts/games and just make the party yourselves.

Having just typed all that up i'm not wondering if you mean cambridgeshire- will leave it in case you mean cornwall! Have a lovely holiday!

This might help.

Aren’t they back at school by Halloween?

HalloweeninCornwall · 17/10/2018 14:40

Not in our neck of the woods hmmm.
dontgo thank you very much for taking the time to write such a helpful post. Yes definitely Cornwall. I have a Shiny new username especially for this thread!Smile

I think you’re right about just turning up in people’s doorsteps. I would dread Doing that but DD is extremely focused on getting what she wants.

You’ve given me some great pointers, thanks. X

In our town (in Cornwall but not SI) those interested put pumpkins/decorations etc outside on their doorsteps to show they are encouraging T and T. Otherwise, children stay away, assuming they are not welcome - or possibly the place is unoccupied. I wouldn't say its a particularly big thing here. We rarely get children coming - they get fed up of climbing our - very steep - hill.

The National Trust is definitely worth looking into as we have a lot of great properties down here and it makes a family membership good value if you go to quite a few. They often do seasonal themed activities for children.
