According to the article they also own Baker & Spice and the Flour Power bakery, neither of which I realised before.

They DIDN’T rapidly expand. They had 9 branches between 1987-2006. Then they got taken over by Risk Capital Partners who completely ruined it and changed its food trying to make them into a huge chain.

Can anyone recommend some good patisseries?

I loved Betty's.

I had the worst tea scone ever in that shop about 5 years ago. It was like a brick - they then tried to toast it! I'm surprised they've lasted this long!

They were nice when they just had those few branches in London. Once they started expanding quality and service seriously declined.

Their cakes are awful now. Won’t be missed where I live.
