Croup in 6 year old?

Ds has what sounds like really bad croup, he’s has it all last night and all today - getting progressively worse.

Could it be croup or just a really nasty barking cough?

He’s had calpol as he’s feeling rough and has a temperature and little rosy cheeks. Do I need to do anything else?

I am usually okay with it when he’s poorly, but I feel weirdly out my depth today (single parent, no one else to ask)

Hmmm, any one any advice? I think I might run him to the chemist. He feels “rattly” when I put my hand on his back.

Something just feels a bit not right, but I don’t know if I’m over reacting.

Croup in itself isn't bad. It sounds worse than it is.

If you're concerned, taking him to see the chemist is a good idea and they will advise if he needs to see a doctor.

It could well be croup (which generally isn't too serious, as long as he's able to breathe inbetween bouts of coughing), but the rattling suggests it could be a chest infection, so get him seen - pharmacist is probably easier at this time of day, they'll advise if he needs any treatment.

Sorry, I chucked him in car and drove to chemist as I was getting more worried. She’s sent us to walk in centre, she said she thinks it’s croup but he might need steroids to open the airways as he’s struggling a bit with it. Bless him, he’s feeling rubbish Flowers
