Anyone else shave their legs like this?

thecatsthecats · 10/10/2018 09:17

I shave my legs with cheapy orange bic razors. I usually do so on dry skin, or sometimes in the bath. Never with soap or shaving cream.

I seem to have categorically INsensitive skin. I never get ingrowing hairs. Occasionally a little scratch or spot bleed. No general redness.

Whenever I've used cream, it takes longer, bits get missed, and I seem to have lots of downy little hairs all over. The bic glides over the surface, and you can hear (and see) all the little hairs just shearing off. Cream takes longer. CBA waxing. A pack of 10 bic razors lasts me the year, provided I make sure they're stored in a dry place.

Anyone else shave this way or am I crackers?

I shave my legs in the shower and have never used shaving cream in my entire life.

I reckon media depictions of women shaving with cream are one of those things where we're given an unrealistic view of how people do things in real life.

thecatsthecats · 10/10/2018 11:25

Well, I wondered that, though I also always read those critiques of adverts. Esp. face washing - e.g. 'who splashes their face with water like that?'

Um, I do. In the shower, where I wash my face.

I have done occasionally when in a rush and forgot while in the shower but it stings and leaves my legs feeling really tight afterwards. If it suits you though crack on Grin

Do you have quite soft skin?

I have very dry skin, if I dry shaved (and I've tried occasionally) I would rip my skin off.

I do dry shave my armpits though!

WellTidy · 10/10/2018 11:49

It would leave my skin really dry and flaky to dry shave. But I don't do anything special - I just use soap and whatever razors are on offer. I am generally in a rush so aren't that careful, but I rarely cut myself. I always moisturise afterwards though as I have lizard like skin on my legs.

BeeMyBaby · 10/10/2018 11:55

Ginacarbornara you've just made me think of that scene from cabin fever and now I feel Confused

kaytee87 · 10/10/2018 11:58

I always use shaving gel/foam (just a cheapy unperfumed one though), I find it really uncomfortable to shave without. I also use a decent 5 blade razor that swivels to get round knees etc. I don't miss any bits as I can see where I've done because the foam isn't on that bit of skin anymore.

ChilliPowderMild · 10/10/2018 12:00

I shave my legs in the shower using whatever shower gel there is hanging around. I use a Venus with replaceable blades (which I remember to change about every 3 months or so...). That is all.
I have a shower over the bath and one of those across-bath things so I can hoik my leg up and get the job done without contorting myself or giving myself dizzy spells.
The only thing that gives me dry legs is wearing socks every day in the winter - by February my shins will resemble crocodile skin.

theworldistoosmall · 10/10/2018 12:08

I exfoliate the skin beforehand, then shave without any cream just a bit of whatever wash stuff I have at hand. Always have a really good shave, really smooth legs, and the shave lasts longer. I did my legs on Monday and today depending on what I do I might shave but can still wear a skirt as just feel a bit prickly if I stroke my legs going up.

Have tried many methods over the years and this works for me. Oh and I use gilette for men. Good enough for their faces good enough for my legs, pits and the bush. Get them on offer every couple of years.

MrsRubyMonday · 10/10/2018 12:36

Exfoliate with gloves, then apply hair conditioner (I water down the last bit in the bottle that won't come out normally and save for this purpose) very thin layer, let sit for a few seconds, shave, follow with hand to check for missed bits.

I dry shaved once as a teenager. Over ten years later I've never made that mistake again. Dry and itchy for days, horrible rash, and I don't have sensitive skin at all.

wildewillow · 10/10/2018 12:41

I use hair conditioner. Lovely and silky!

prampushingdownthehighst · 10/10/2018 12:46

I also use the end of bottles of hair conditioner, always leaves me with soft
legs and saves money too.

Zoflorabore · 10/10/2018 12:47

Hair conditioner here too. Shaving foam is way too thick and doesn't last me five minutes. I am very hairy Grin

Emmasmum2013 · 10/10/2018 12:52

I've used hair conditioner too. I once had a bottle of 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner that was shit for my hair but fantastic as shaving foam. Lasted forever too!

I can't dry shave and am envious of those that can. I have to have a good soak in the bath and use some sort of shaving foam and preferably a fresh razor each time. Otherwise my legs end up all bumpy and red. Even if I try to shave in the shower, my legs will be prickly and itchy afterwards.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 10/10/2018 12:59

i have terrible trouble shaving legs...massively shortsighted so since the new edict of Not Wearing Lenses In The Shower for fear your eyes explode the desired result has been very hit or miss

Anyway it suddenly occurred to me that I should keep my specs on and just dangle the leg to be shaved through the shower doors and stand outside on the bath mat.

So that's what I do...shower on, wet and soap leg, shave, swap leg and repeat, then get in the shower sans specs!

No dry shaving though, it's making me wince a bit thinking of that

Thatstheendofmytether · 10/10/2018 13:03

😱 my legs would be in agony after doing that. Even wetting the radon and having no soap etc. I did it a couple of times when in a rush and had my jeans turned up, I will shave just around my ankles 😂 it so sore afterwards though for a long time.

TheViceOfReason · 10/10/2018 13:07

Another short sighted person here - if i tried to shave without specs on i'd miss 50% of it and cut myself to ribbons.

I stand outside the bath, hairy leg in the bath, wet with shower head, lather up shave gel and apply liberally, then shave (venus 5 blade razor). Check with hand for stragglers, then swap legs.

MaryBoBary · 10/10/2018 13:08

I use chip razors like you and shower gel, but my skin is like chicken skin, really bumpy and blotchy even before I shave. I do definitely notice my legs are smoother and less irritated if I use a proper razor (like the Venus ones) and shaving gel but it’s expensive and I can’t afford it really. I also get a closer shave with the more expensive bits.

bonzo77 · 10/10/2018 13:21

Dry shaving with a box would leave me in tatters. I use 4-bladed razor (new heads into old handle every few months) and whatever cheap conditioner or body lotion I have to hand. Shaving in the shower never works for me (cannot balance on one leg, water washes off the conditioner) so I tend to put by leg up on the sink. But that’s getting harder to do. And I’m only 41!

flopsyrabbit1 · 10/10/2018 13:44

Gillette for men to far better and no nicks/very close shave

2in 1 shampoo, managed to get 5 bottles end of line asda 15p each

Oblomov18 · 10/10/2018 14:07

I have Never dry shaved.

I stand in the bathroom and run a small sink of hot water. Wet legs and armpits, with the hot water. Why I don't know, to open up the pores? Get the skin ready for shaving?
Use Dh's shaving gell, or mine if there's any to hand. Use a Venus, only use it twice before throwing blade away. Promptly Jump in shower or bath.

Wheresthel1ght · 10/10/2018 14:15

Due to a medical condition I have very tough hair in my legs. I also have very dry and thin skin due to donkeys years of steroids for a second medical issue. If I didn't use shaving gel (or conditioner when I run out) I would rip my legs to shreds.

Thecomfortador · 10/10/2018 14:26

Gillette mach 3 for me, shave downwards which seems to stop it itching, and usually just water or a bit of whatever soapy stuff it to hand. Amazed how much better the mens razors are than ladies.

GruciusMalfoy · 10/10/2018 14:46

I dry shaved once when I was in a rush. Oh god, the burn a few hours later was terrible. Never again.

These days I shave about 3 times a year. Conditioner works great, the cheaper the better.

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 10/10/2018 16:36

I use really sensitive moisturising shaving cream and razors with the moisturising strips on and on legs that have soaked for at least 5 minutes and my skin is still left feeling tight until I lather it in body butter.

I actually flinched reading your post OP Blush
