Does anyone know anything about NS&I

My DH got a letter today from NS&I delivered to his parents address where he's not lived for years. Just a general we are making changes to the way you can pay into your account, thing is he has no idea what account they are talking about. He can't think what it could be as far as we know he's never had an account.
FIL knows nothing about it and MIL is no longer with us.
They can't tell us anything on phone they are sending out forms.
What could this be, we have no idea about national savings! Maybe we've been rich all along!! Or maybe its been sent to wrong person!!

Post office accounts, that’s what we had as children.

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/10/2018 21:18

Its premium bonds I think. He had some as a child maybe?

I got one to my mums address too and addressed to my maiden name. I think it was just a general letter announcing some changes. I may still have a post office account open, pretty sure there’s not more than a pound in there though.

Pretty sure it's premium bonds, I had a letter sent to my mum's house (moved out 13 years ago!) But none of my brothers did, yet we all have the same amount of bonds Confused

You can do a premium bond checker online or ring them and they’ll send you the details.
I think lots of people were bought a few quids worth of premium bonds when they were kids

Redyoyo · 09/10/2018 21:27

Yeah sounds like premium bonds aww well there was me thinking we might be sitting on a few bob.

You never know you might’ve won on the premium bonds!

trackrBird · 10/10/2018 22:50

National Savings are just government backed savings accounts, premium bonds are just one of the products on offer. Used to be with the PO but all separate organisations now.

Get in touch and see if there’s anything there for DH that he’s forgotten. They wouldn’t send letters out for no reason, and he might as well know what’s there. If he’s forgotten it it must be pretty trivial, but hey :)

A few years ago the Government advertised over 60's bonds with NSI where you could invest up to, I think, £10,000 at a fixed interest rate which was well above what you were getting elsewhere at the time - I think it was 4% but you were tied in for 3 years. My mum bought a bond. Could it be your dad invested in one of those?

Apologies Op, just re-read your post and realised the letter was addressed to your DH so can't be the pensioner bonds!
