I was quoted £2k for a new boiler today and I'm just wondering if that sounds about right?

Really wishing it should be cheaper!!

Depends on the boiler and what you are having done. I've just had mine done this weekend, for a 4 bed house, gas and electrics done, thermostats, remote control, mates rates, £2,100.

Count yourself lucky, mine is oil and I need to move and replace the oil tank so in all it will be about £5,000. Of that £3000 is the boiler.

Fairylea · 09/10/2018 19:02

Yes that’s about right. We’ve put new boilers into several houses and it’s always been about £1.7 to £2.2k depending on the size of the house and the boiler.

SilverHairedCat · 09/10/2018 19:12

That's doesn't sound unreasonable. What's included in the price? Have you checked the brand of boiler out?

TonTonMacoute · 09/10/2018 19:37

I’m afraid so. Don’t feel that you can’t shop around though, and check things like warranty and follow up service deals.

Bummer, isn’t it!

BIWI · 09/10/2018 19:38

We paid a lot more than that for ours, so sounds very reasonable!

Alwaysatyke · 09/10/2018 20:46

I had a new boiler installed last week - glo-worm with 10 year warranty and straightforward installation (no complicated flue or anything) and it cost £2k

Labralion · 09/10/2018 21:03

What kind of boiler is it? If it's decent quality thy sounds ok!

maddiemookins16mum · 09/10/2018 21:27

Yep, ours was about 2.8k with a discount.

HolyMountain · 09/10/2018 21:51

We’ve a Worcester Greenstar; about £2,000 thereabouts which Dh installed so our overall cost was cheaper.

HolyMountain · 09/10/2018 21:52

*£1,000.

poorpaws · 09/10/2018 21:58

Mine was £3,100 two months ago. I had to have a special flue because of where it was housed. It’s a Worcester Bosch with 10 year warranty.

donkeysandzebras · 09/10/2018 22:01

Go onto Vaillant & other brands websites and work out what size boiler you need. Then go onto the trade websites and find out the cost of the boiler. Then you'll know if it's a decent quote or not.
When I got my first boiler, various tradespeople were quoting the cost of the boiler at between 50 and 100% more than the actual cost and then adding labour etc. They were all quite surprised when I challenged this and did some quick back tracking and recalculation.

Oly5 · 09/10/2018 22:03

British Gas fitted our Worcester Bosch last winter. £3K. Ouch

Squeegle · 09/10/2018 22:04

Worcester 30si £1970 including fitting . 5 year guarantee

DrCoconut · 09/10/2018 22:49

I paid £1200 all in earlier this year.
