I've been on the depo for as long as I can remember. I came off it and went onto the pill prior to TTC. The 3 pills I was put on in succession made me have horrid headaches, feel sick all the time and bleed what felt like buckets.
The depo works for me - I fell pregnant when we intended so it does it job as far as contraception is concerned. I also get no side effects. Some breakthrough bleeding but no periods to speak of.
I'm mindful that now they advise you to have it at 11week intervals (or my GP does anyway) as it can cause osteoperosis. I also vaguely recall there are other side effects of long term use.
I've recently come across an issue in booking appointments. My surgery does not have their appointments on for 11 weeks time when I go for my depo so I have to remember to book a few weeks later.
I work 4 days a week but do the school run so am out of the house for 8.30 and not home til 5.45. Stupidly I booked an appointment a few weeks ago at 4.30pm on 29/10 (approx 6 weeks since last jab) and didnt realise it would clash with work (I had in my head it was half term - it is - but Im at work).
Have just called to rearrange and because of the really small window of time I have - surgery opens at 7.30 I have to leave for work after school drop off at 8.50 - I have struggled to get an appointment.
Just wondering what are others experiences of other contraceptives. Tablets aren't an issue for me really as I take a few in the morning anyway so it's already a routine I have.
I'm almost hesitant to change because whilst I know not every method is 100%, depo has not let me down yet. I honestly could not cope with another pregnancy and child and it would damage my mental health which is finally on the up after 4 years.
I think, if it was possible, I'd happily be sterilised. I know it's a bigger procedure for a woman, and less risky for a man to have a vasectomy but ultimately, it is my own desire not to have any more children.
