Climate change - what can I actually do as an individual?

So, latest news re climate change is quite frankly chilling. I’ve decided I’m going to do my part and make changes, so what can i actually do as an individual (in a family) to make the most impact, without becoming a full-on ecowarrior type or feeling like I’m just pissing in the
So far I’m going to look into:
becoming vegetarian (not ideal but will do it if it makes a discernible difference)
Shop more locally, less food that’s done air miles
Cut down on food waste
Buy items eg clothes/house stuff that will last, not disposable
Think about changing car for an electric one
Use car less and public transport more
Encourage DH to fly less for work (if he can)
Use only eco products for cleaning etc. (sorry Mrs Hinch)
Dry outside as much as poss, use tumble dryer very sparingly
Turn down thermostat

Anything else? It will be quite a lifestyle change but I’m willing to do it if it has an impact. I’m worried that it won’t though and we’re actually screwed if governments don’t make changes on a larger scale. So depressing.

Make sure any investments and pensions are not invested in carbon heavy industries.

Dont buy anything on black plastic trays, it isn't recycled. Ditto takeaway coffee cups.

Massively reduce meat and dairy consumption.

Holiday in the uk. Join a community environmental project I.e transition network, volunteer at a repair cafe or a tree planting scheme.

Get on to your m.p and ask them what they are doing.

Buy second hand as much as possible, give items you no longer need away via freecycle or charity shops.

Vote in every election you can for candidates who support progressive and decisive action on climate change.

It may be too late, but the single best action you can take is having just 1 child.

Buy renewable electricity.

Reduce the number of cars you have and/or when you replace, buy a hybrid.

If you invest any money (e.g. private pension funds) approach the firm about funds divested from fossil fuels/whether they will ever divest.

If your DH is flying for work, what is his company's greenhouse gas emissions reduction target and policy? If none, he should get them considering it.

Buy second-hand clothing.

Grow your own veg - in an allotment, the garden or pots, don’t use pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilisers - go all natural with green manure and companion planting. Means your veg goes directly from the ground to your plate

Grow a garden with bee friendly flowers (again even a few window boxes help)

Allow space for a home for nature if you have it available (those two aren’t so much about reducing carbon footprint but about giving something positive back)

Consider running your hot water, heating, and electric through solar panel / small garden windmill.

Use less electric, decide what really needs to be running - turn off all plugs not being used (even standby uses electric) and turn off lights when not needed

Check how well insulated your home is - there are things you can do to improve it even if you don’t own the house - heavy curtains, draught excluders, letter box brushes, sealing window gaps - your home then requires less energy to heat

Update - practical changes I’ve made...
Switched energy supplier to Bulb who supply 100% renewable electricity and 10% renewable gas (I now have a £50 referral code if anyone is also interested?)
Made a commitment to go vegetarian (once all bacon in fridge is eaten up). Doesn’t extend to the rest of the family but it’s a start
Ordered a portable solar panel to charge up phones and tablets (a small step towards maybe full on solar panels on roof - need to think about how long we’re going to stay in our current house)
Joined some environmental action groups on Facebook
Signed a petition against fracking.

A drop in the ocean really, but aim feeling so much better for at least doing something than just panicking.

Well done you that's a great start!
Now its winter definitely look into insulating your house, strips to plug gaps in windows, door strips or draught excluders, door thermal curtains. Attic insulation should be 10 inches deep.

We just try to buy less stuff, so not loads of clothes and second hand where we can. I like using a dress agency for work clothes not much more expensive than a charity shop and quality is miles better.

We holiday in the uk but that's because we are skint!
