Restaurant recommendations

Hi
My parents are off to London soon, staying in Kensington and looking for places to eat. They want to stay close to their hotel, as they're trying to avoid using the tube (my dad is having chemo, and trying to avoid closed/cramped contact with lots of people because of fear of infection). I'm assuming (not knowing London that well) that Kensington will have its fair share of 'posh' restaurants, but they'd rather have something more casual/unpretentious.

I've seen (and benefited from) great recommendations on here before, so really hoping there's some wisdom out there!

Maroush lebanese is lovely and just off Kensington High Street. Have been going for years. Memories of India on Gloucester Road also. Or, and old classic, Da Mario's pizzeria - arguably the best in town.

Maggie Jones's www.maggie-jones.co.uk just off Kensington Church Street. V casual and unpretentious, but lovely food and ambience. (Not great on vegetarian options though!)

And if they're happy to eat in pubs, The Churchill Arms www.churchillarmskensington.co.uk on Ken Church Street itself. The food is Thai and delicious!

Do you mean Kensington as in Kensington high st? South ken? Or the area around North ken tube? It covers a really large area, all the ‘kensingtons’.

If it’s High st Ken, there’s a little Bistro called Fiona’s that is lovely. Not high st, but v nearby on kensington church st.

Can be way more specific if you narrow it down to street though, I know the area very well but would need more info!

I'm not sure exactly where they're staying. But they're happy to walk/taxi a short way.

Now that I think about it, I have a vague recollection they said something about staying near the Royal Albert Hall. That should narrow it down a bit.

Really appreciate all the reccos so far - I want to go to all of them!

I actually like Wholefoods market too. Upstairs is the food Hall which can be a bit overwhelming and self-servicy but through the supermarket on the ground floor, there’s a little wine and cheese bit, you can pick your own cheeses or order racalette or charcuterie.

Also check out Cafe Concerto on High st Ken. Has a lovely European cafe vibe, great for small bites or main meals, probably wouldn’t need to book, it’s quite informal like that- great spots near the window to people watch. I go for a late night glass of wine and a snack sometimes with my book and pretend I’m in Paris Grin

@Heuschrecke - Just had this text from my mum. Thanks!

Please thank whoever recommended Maggie Jones. Quirky does not even come close to describing the decor. The food was delicious.

Glad they enjoyed it. I've been going there for donkey's years and it has barely changed in all that time - and the quality (and quantity!) of the food never disappoints!
