If so how? Is there like a framework of wittiness one can follow as a beginner? How do people like Jimmy Carr do it?

Pls give some examples.

It's innate

Gammeldragz · 07/10/2018 21:41

Just say whatever comes into your head without filtering it... Sometimes it will be funny. Works for me 😉

MrsFezziwig · 07/10/2018 21:42

No - you either are or you aren’t.

yorkshireyummymummy · 07/10/2018 21:44

No. It’s something that you’ve either got or you haven’t.
But it’s no bad thing not to be witty - you just laugh along!

It’s not witty if nobody laughs is it!!

MartaTam · 07/10/2018 21:56

Are you posters witty? If so can I test you?

Titsywoo · 07/10/2018 21:58

I don't think so. I think it's just natural for some. I would say I am funny/witty definitely.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 07/10/2018 21:59

You have to be well read / cultured I'd say.

Obviously depends on the circles in which you move too...

yorkshirepud44 · 07/10/2018 22:01

I'd say my whole family are. Dh is particularly quick. I tend towards acerbic if I'm too quick, I have to be careful.

I repress a lot, especially working in a charitable org full of good souls. Grin

SleightOfMind · 07/10/2018 22:01

You have to practise.
It’s like scoring goals or shooting hoops.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 07/10/2018 22:01

I just say what’s in my head. You have to be in the right circles though.

MartaTam · 07/10/2018 22:02

Some of the wittiest people I know have the least of education. I don’t think it’s anything at all to do with education.

Intrigued to see the exam you're going to set, MartaTam Grin

yorkshirepud44 · 07/10/2018 22:02

Being around witty people definitely helps.

MartaTam · 07/10/2018 22:04

Titsywoo so here goes....”I’m really tired, didn’t sleep well last night”

OP posts:
MartaTam · 07/10/2018 22:05

Universal - Not quite an exam Grin, just a few one liners.

OP posts:
MartaTam · 07/10/2018 22:07

Yorkshire - Agree.

Screamqueenz · 07/10/2018 22:07

I thought I was witty, but I don't get your example.

Bestseller · 07/10/2018 22:08

Some people are definitely more able than others but I think it can come if you stop caring what people think. E. G I am funnier when I'm with people I'm really comfortable with and as I've got older I'm more prepared to attempt a quick remark than I was when I was younger.

Amrapaali · 07/10/2018 22:09

Oooh am interested in this thread. I think it's also a tad difficult if are trying to be witty in a language that isn't your mother tongue.
If you said you didnt sleep last night, Id just wink and go "ooh-er". That's how witty I am Grin

yorkshirepud44 · 07/10/2018 22:10

I can't do it on demand like that. Perhaps I'm not witty after all.

Confused
TooTrueToBeGood · 07/10/2018 22:11

I'm funny as fuck. Unfortunately, I've yet to meet anyone else that shares my sense of humour.

yorkshirepud44 · 07/10/2018 22:12

Yes - dh speaks a few languages fluently but I wonder if he can be as witty in them as in English. I will enquire. I imagine it needs total fluency to get the nuances.

iklboo · 07/10/2018 22:12

What's a ninja turtle's favourite chocolate spread?

Donutella

(That's from DS12))

Titsywoo · 07/10/2018 22:13

Eh? What are you trying to get us to do? Say something funny in response to a random sentence? Doesn't really work like that for me! I just say funny stuff - sometimes in response to someone and sometimes just as it comes to mind! But it's also opinion - not everyone will find me funny. I just surround myself by people that do Grin.

MartaTam · 07/10/2018 22:16

Iklboo - But that’s not wit, that’s just a joke Confused? Or is it?
