Exercise with kids about

I need some advice or tips on how to go about meaningful exercise whilst looking after my DC

I never have child free time apart from when they are asleep, so I am tied to the house. So no gym, no swimming pool, no long runs - or short runs for that matter.

I need to get fit (and lose weight). I'm looking for advice on meaningful, effective exercise.

I already take the DC on long and short walks with the dog and we walk the school run. I'm thinking something along the lines of high intensity work out for a relatively short time period daily?

My DC are 3 and 4.

HIIT when they’re in bed. Use YouTube videos.

Also, 3 year olds make really good kettle bells.

Davina McCall fitness dvd?

Do you mind me asking why you have no child free time?

Try Bodyfit by Amy on YouTube. She has tons of videos done with weights, some without and you could build up from 15 mins at a time.

Hasfiit on you tube with coach kozak and claudia, its free and they have a whole host of videos ranging from 10 mins to an 1hr. They do tabata, kettlebells, cardio, strength, the works, i would be very surprised if you dont find a video you like with them, and it all ranges from beginner up to advanced. I love it and am def seeing results and my 4 and 3 year old like helping out!

Thanks for the replies, I'll look into your suggestions!

@Sohardtochooseausername my DD is always with me other than when I am at work, I literally get 5 minutes in the car between dropping her at nursery and arriving at work that I am completely child/work free. I don't have anyone to help with childcare.

I work part time though, so she should prove a good weight to use when exercising whilst her brother is at school Grin

Ah I see! I also struggle for time too (although it’s easier now dd is at school and I work full time.) Are you able to walk/run/cycle to your job? It is a good way to build exercise into your day.

ohthegoats · 08/10/2018 10:15

I struggle a bit with this too - mostly because my commute time doesn't really allow me to build exercise into my 'day'. This means it's pre dinner at 7pm, or after dinner/child in bed at 9pm - at 7pm I'm hungry, so don't want to exercise and blah blah.

Long story short, HIIT. Using youtube. Also LesMills on demand - lots of short workouts around 25 mins. I have 3 and 4kg weights and a bar with some weights. My 3 year old often joins in.

Use the children....

Pop the 3 yo in a buggy and go for a run.

Get them out on scooters/bikes and briskly walk with them. have races.

Chase the kids round the park - play football with them chuck a tennis ball around.

Walk up and down the stairs. Do push ups in your bedroom.

You don't need to do hours and hours in a gym :) even 2 x 30 minutes a week would help!

ileclerc · 08/10/2018 10:38

Get up before them and do HIIT.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 08/10/2018 10:39

Skipping rope in the garden.

carrie74 · 08/10/2018 10:43

Exercise in lunchtime

Exercise before they get up or after they've gone to bed (use YouTube/DVDs/Fitness Blender/whatevs)

Book an extra pre-school session

Do Wii Fit together

Run while they scoot alongside you.

Sorry, I do t recall if you mentioned a DP? If so, weekend time?

GlassSuppers · 08/10/2018 10:50

My DD is 2 and I struggle to find time too!
I've started doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVD. I'm noticing a difference and DD does it alongside me!!
A personal trainer friend of mine says that loosing weight and being healthy is 80% diet and 20% exercise.
