Disneyland Paris - school trip

DD is in Year 7 and the school are offering a trip to Normandy next June which will include a day at Disneyland Paris before they come home. I'm trying to decide if it is worth the money for her as although she likes the characters, she isn't in to rides.

I have neer been to Disneyland so could someone tell me what their ticket will likely include, will rides/shows cost extra? The letter mentions buying lunch/tea there before leaving but I imagine the food is pretty expensive.

I will check with the school too but if anyone has been it would be helpful. The rest of the trip is visits to the Arromanche landing beaches, Bayeux Tapestry, etc.

Rides and shows will be included. Food isn’t too expensive on 12 year old tastes! She’ll be able to get a burger meal or whatnot for €12 or something.

Sounds like a great trip to me!

Everything in Disneyland is included (apart from food and shopping). Food isn't that expensive especially as just her so around €15 will get her a meal. There are a few 'fast' rides but there are also lots of smaller rides plus the parades, atmosphere, characters etc. She will love it and it will be a fab way to end her trip.

Would she be interested in the "gentle" rides? If so, there is the Peter Pan ride, Pinocchio and It's A Small Ride (and a few others) that are very gentle. If they are going into the Studios too, the stunt show is incredible and the shows are also great.

She could get lunch from the McDonalds just outside the park (within the village) or from the shops in the train station (the baguettes there are much cheaper than from within the park). She could also take a refillable water bottle as there are water fountains around the park.

I cannot believe she wouldn't enjoy it. It is not all about big rides at all . It is a fairy land of sights and sounds and she will not be bored or regret it for a moment( I'm not an apologist for Disney at all, not my scene as a curmudgeonly 50 something) As a one off day of entertainment it is really something special.the whole trip sounds great.

I did a similar trip in Y8. It wasn't thrilling at that age...I'd appreciate it a lot more now. However, I would have really liked Disney at that age. The rides aren't all thrills like Alton towers, they're much more sedate.

How much is the trip?

AugustRose · 07/10/2018 22:33

The trip is £410 but only half-board so doesn't include lunches and it is only 3 nights in the hotel, travelling either side by coach/ferry.

DD1 had a similar trip 4 years ago with a different school but that was only £425 fully inclusive, 5 nights in a hostel and travelling on the Eurostar. They spent their last day in Paris rather than Disneyland so that's probably why it was cheaper, plus I know costs have gone up for school trips in recent years.

We need to make the decision by Friday so I'll have to give it some more thought, thank you for the replies.

Good or bad, if shes going with friends theyre experiencing it together and that'd be the main take away for me, bit of independance, just amazing!

CinnaMessala · 07/10/2018 22:43

I’d jump at the chance for someone else to take my kids to Disneyland for me Grin

ChocolateCard · 07/10/2018 22:48

Absolutely yes, let her go.

There’s hardly any fast rides in Disney. Most of it is shows, parades, characters. The rides are more like a ‘journey into Never Never Land’, rather than rollercoasters.

AugustRose · 08/10/2018 09:57

Cinna well there is that as we are never likely to go ourselves!

Thanks for the comments, I was just bothered that she'd be stood at the side while the others join in/go on rides, etc as she has done that before.
