It's a big thing innit?

As far as I can tell this is a family of Germans pretending to be Irish for the benefit of other Germans.

It's a big thing innit?

Well it comes from the old Barry Fitzgerald movies doesn't it, that's what the foreign idea of Ireland and the Irish is based on, especially in the US.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 17:19

case in point^

RealGhouls · 07/10/2018 17:19

Apparently the grandfather was born in Michigan but his ancestors migrated from Ireland during the famine. And the grandmother, also from USA, but née Suokko, which I guess is Finnish.

I never knew this was a thing, how odd.

Patroclus · 07/10/2018 17:21

Go to Boston, USA. The home of plastic paddyism coupled with offensive half baked politics.

tectonicplates · 07/10/2018 17:23

I thought "Will Ye Go, Lassie" was a Scottish song

RealGhouls · 07/10/2018 17:26

Apparently it's Scottish/Belfast. Not really clear.

Oh yes Patroclus, there is the ultimate plastic paddy band.

Oo I know being Irish was desirable. My family are Irish though I am English born and live. I’ve only had hilarious comments such as referring to my surname as a ‘good old gypsy name that’ Confused. My family aren’t Irish travellers!
Maybe with these people it’s imitation is the highest form of flattery?! Maybe Hmm

Ticcinalong · 07/10/2018 18:12

*didnt know that was meant to say!
