Arghhh I feel so anxious. It’s in. It didn’t “pop open”? I put it in and my vagina seemed to have sucked it up. Now I’m scared I won’t be able to get it out? I actually have the Dutchess and the stem isn’t that long. It feels fine, and doesn’t hurt. But my god I’m anxious!

I don't use the stem to pull mine out. Relax, it will be fine.

AwdBovril · 07/10/2018 11:08

Mine doesn't "pop" open, either, it either opens slowly or I have to coax it open with a finger. You'll know if it's properly open if it creates a seal (won't easily pull out), if you can't feel your cervix (assuming you usually can), & if you bleed past it (recommend wearing a pad as a backup until you're more confident). I was nervous at first too, & made mistakes - but a cup is much better & less hassle once you've got the hang of it.

To get it out, you have to release the seal - so you need to push the lip at one side in, just a bit. You'll feel it release, & it can then easily be removed.

Thank you! I took it out to check and I could get it lol it’s back in now! It feels like absolutely nothing, unlike tampons which ache!

If you run it under the cold tap it's easier to get in. Mine doesn't pop at all. It never leaks though.

sophiec123 · 07/10/2018 11:26

Sorry to jump on your post but I really want to try these.. how much did everyone pay for them and would you recommend them? I've heard others have had difficulty removing them which is really why I haven't got one

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 07/10/2018 11:33

Mine was £15 ish for two.
It feels great, I’ll you know how I get on! X

sophiec123 · 07/10/2018 11:37

Oh wow £15 for 2? The ones I've seen online are like £29 each! Okay keep posting! Xx

WhoWants2Know · 07/10/2018 11:38

Just, for the love of god, squeeze it to break the seal before you try to pull it out! And just surrender any dignity you may have left, as the first few times feel ridiculous.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/10/2018 12:01

Mine was a bog standard menstrual cup off ebay. £3.

taeglas · 07/10/2018 12:42

This site is excellent for comparing cups(scrolling picture of cups under chart) & there is also a quiz to help choose the correct cup for you.
putacupinit.com/chart/

I bought mine from femininewear.co.uk/
They usually have a 10% discount code in their drop down menu.

Sorry for jumping on the post but I'm just wondering how these work when in a public toilet and the sink is not in the cubicle...., do you just empty it down the loo and put it back in or do you need to rinse it???

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 07/10/2018 15:49

So, so far so good! Iv only had to reinsert it once after the stem was digging in. Mine doesn’t “pop” more of a suction sound.

It’s amazing. It’s the Dutchess one from amazon. Iv had a nap in it too!

I love mine! £20 from Boots. It’s paid for itself already in the amount of money I’ve saved on tampons etc. I also found it difficult at first to remove it once inserted and got quite worried it was stuck but the more you relax the easier it is. I don’t rinse it after each removal, just empty down loo, wipe with toilet tissue and reinsert. I give it a proper rinse/clean after each cycle Smile

TheBeaconsAreLit · 07/10/2018 15:59

Mama if no access to a sink I just empty mine into the loo, wipe it out with tissue and put it back in... If it's a particularly quiet bathroom I'll maybe nip out and rinse it, but you definitely don't need to. You know you can always give it a proper clean when you get home Smile

TheBeaconsAreLit · 07/10/2018 16:01

Ah x post!

ChodeofChodeHall · 07/10/2018 16:02

I'd love to hear from people who have retroverted uterus and use menstrual cups. I have never found one that works on me and can't afford to keep buying them!

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 07/10/2018 16:34

Does anyone use one with a coil?

OP posts:
AnnaNimmity · 07/10/2018 16:39

Yes I do. It's fine. I love mine. (well as much as it's possible to love such an item)

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 07/10/2018 17:06

Oooh can I join in? I used my mooncup properly last month for my whole period but woosed out this month. I'm now totally out of tampons so will have no other option but to use the mooncup. Tbh I found I didnt need to empty it during the day at all, but maybe my flow isnt particularly heavy. So in that respect only having to take it out/reinsert once in the evening and once in the morning is amazing. But, emptying it is totally minging, so far I've only done it at home. My children usually accompany me to the toilet (as small children always want to do!) and I had no issues inserting tampons with them there, but I feel much more self conscious with the mooncup. Maybe just because its new?

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 07/10/2018 18:16

Iv took it out 2ce now and both times ended up splattering blood everywhere 🙈😷

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 07/10/2018 18:51

You have to do it very slowly and carefully and practice some kind of a weird cross between yoga and karma sutra stance 😂 I get really worried about it going so high. I've never felt my cervix as other posters have said about, how do I do that?! It feels like I have my whole hand in trying to extract the mooncup, how would I get in far enough to feel my cervix?!?!?

DaisyDreaming · 07/10/2018 19:08

I would feel more self conscious with a cup than a tampon, I feel i end up rummaging for want of a better word for ages to try and get it to open properly. Pain in the arse to get the softer ones open but would never go back!

DaisyDreaming · 07/10/2018 19:08

There’s an amazing YouTube channel called precious star pads that’s full of helpful advice, I couldn’t get it in when I got it as it just told you to fold it in half (C fold) but YouTube taught me mooncup oragami!

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 07/10/2018 21:40

I know what you mean about the rummaging! 😂 I use the c-fold and it seems to work ok, but it is easier when the cup is wet. It does feel like I'm ramming it in some times which is a bit disconcerting. I've joked with my husband that he may have to extract it if it is too far up. I'm sure he knows my interior anatamy down there better than me Wink

NoParticularPattern · 07/10/2018 21:43

I’m pleased you said it feels nicer than tampons! I also find that they ache- I frequently joke (to myself/DH, I’m not a public period sharing weirdo) that it feels like it’s sucking my soul out it aches so much. Mine is coming tomorrow and I’m on day 2/3 so quite intrigued to see how I get on (I promise there’ll be less period sharing weirdness from now on.....!)
