Bath water colouring?

I remember having some stuff that made your bath water different colours when I was a kid, is that still a thing?
Not bubble bath but just colour.
If so, can anyone recommend some that don't stain the bath or the child please?

'Jelly baff' turns the water to different colour jelly and back again.

YouWereRight · 06/10/2018 20:22

Bath oils? The ones in a little dissolving bubble?

Bath bombs?

TheFifthKey · 06/10/2018 20:24

I make “magic sticks” by dipping a skewer in gel food colouring and letting the DC swirl it in the bath. You only need a small amount, and it makes a good colour, which doesn’t stain anything. Remove the skewers after use though!

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 06/10/2018 20:24

Food colouring......
It might stain the skin.

WildCherryBlossom · 06/10/2018 20:27

My daughter has had various Lush products which have coloured the bath water recently. The most dramatic was a rainbow fizzing thing which filled the bath with rainbow foam (which merged to sludge green after a few minutes)

cucumbergin · 06/10/2018 20:28

DS has Crayola Tub Tones bath fizzers. They are basically flat pencil shaped bath bombs that colour the bath water. You can mix colours to get diff colour etc.

No stain on bath or DS.

GreenDinosaur · 06/10/2018 20:30

Ooh, Tub Tones, that rings a bell! Thanks for all the recommendations, I'll look them up. DC is only 2 so I'm not wasting posh bath bombs on him and he's not keen on bubbles so far. Weird child. Grin

I do really fancy that Jelly Baff stuff though for me! but maybe when he's a bit older.

You can also get bath crackles (like these www.mumandme.com/en-gb/little-explorers/funky-fizz-bath-crackles ) but I find them hard to get hold of for a reasonable price. I wish Boots/supermarkets would actually stock something fun that isn't bloody endless rows of Disney bubble bath!

GreenDinosaur · 06/10/2018 20:44

@DandyScandi, those tablets look brilliant, I think they are going on the Xmas list, many thanks!

Ooh, the crackly things look exciting too! You guys are fab!

I give jelly bath to kids who's parents I don't like Grin. I won't let mine use it unless in a paddling pool that I can tip down the outside grate as I always wonder if it affects the pipes

cucumbergin · 06/10/2018 21:18

The crackling stops quite quickly (and you might need to swish around a bit after as the little bits can be a bit uncomfortable to sit on until they've all melted) but they did colour the bath nicely. And DS liked the brief crackling noise.

I always worry about that with jelly bath - haven't risked it yet. Does it stay jellied, or is there anything you can put in to unjellify it?

BiscuitDrama · 06/10/2018 21:22

Salt, apparently.

YouWereRight · 06/10/2018 21:31

You get a sachet that turns jelly baff back into water.

Lush does some odd slimy bath bombs too. They're pretty odd, but turn back to water after a while.

Jakethekid · 06/10/2018 22:19

Ah this reminded me that when we were younger we used to have bottle of a sort of Halloween bath stuff that turned the water red and it had fake spiders in it. We loved that!

elizabethdraper · 06/10/2018 22:23

I buy them in lidl. We have green tablets at the moment

isitburnt · 06/10/2018 22:23

The ones DandyScandi linked to are amazing. They are tiny balls, some pea sized some bigger, and you can mix colours. You can use up to 10 or so each bath. There are the safest ones, American, that I havd found. Some bath products are too bicarby for children.

Notrightatall · 06/10/2018 22:35

Just put a little food colouring in. It's the only way mine will get in the bath. They use green blue yellow and red and mix them to make the colour they like. By the time they have mixed them all it's normally brownHmm but it works and no sticky stuff or powders etc. Doesn't stain anything

OpposableThumbs2 · 07/10/2018 07:54

There are kids bubble baths that change colour as you put it in the water.you could swirl it in once the taps are off so it doesn't bubble up.

Shelley54 · 07/10/2018 08:07

Another vote for the ones @Dandyscandi linked to. Never stain anything, kids love them.

GreenDinosaur · 07/10/2018 11:10

Good to know, DH fitted the bathroom and he'll go mad if I stain the bath! Shock

We’ve got a white bath, and white bathroom tiles and it’s never left a mark. I also have a toddler with crazy pale skin and again he’s never come out a funny colour!

isitburnt · 07/10/2018 16:28

Yes, pale tiles and white grout here and not a mark. The crayola bath crayons stain the grout!

It’s worth paying the extra for the Color My Bath ones. They last for ages as you only need a few.
