Life consequences of being sectioned under the Mental Health Act

I was reading an article earlier which I'll link back to when I find it but in essence a news-presenter was discussing how trying to navigate through his daughter's anorexia nearly tore his family apart. His daughter is now better, however ,something mentioned in the article stuck with me; that he was adamant that he did not want his daughter to be sectioned because of the {negative} consequences it would have on her future (life) choices.

Putting aside the mental and emotional toil of the section itself; what are these other 'life consequences', so to speak? Would she for example be precluded from certain jobs/careers? I'm fairly sure that travel insurance would be at a premium as it usually is for those with medical conditions regardless. But is there something necessarily hindering about having a section 'on record' as it were?

Certain countries restrict entry including the usa

But you just need a doctors letter to say you’re fine now. I’ve been sectioned and had no problems.

But wouldn't that be if you disclosed it wrt the USA? I thought the ESTA was a fairly rudimentary form as it also asks in all earnesty if a person is seeking to or has ever engaged in terrorist activities or genocide...

There's nothing on the ESTA to say the US discriminates like that, @LoisLittsLover!
