Ear defenders

I live on a main road. I'm rural so it's not like a motorway or anything like as bad as that but due to road closures it's now become 24/7 traffic whereas before it stopped from 12-7 and most Sunday's.

I'm struggling a lot with mental health issues and am finding the sound of traffic on top is overwhealming to me. I can't seem to get anyone to understand, can't do anything about mental stuff as im just borderline and must put up with it as it's not an illness but wondered if people here have ever used them and found them to be useful?

I'm craving what little quiet I can get. I'm aware they won't stop everything I'm going through but just dimming the traffic would help.

I ordered some ear defenders on Amazon and they're useless. So I was wondering if anyone here uses them and if so what brand?

you could try ones like these maybe? all the best x www.justonline.co.uk/product/reusable-quiet-zone-ear-plugs-keep-out-noise/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgO7z6uLx3QIVw4jVCh1dUAgTEAkYASABEgLPk_D_BwE

Oh no, is it temporary at least?

I've found the following help

  • Bose noise reducing headphones and earbuds (£££ though, you can sometimes get good ones on eBay)
  • these 3m earmuffs from Amazon
  • 3m classic earplugs
  • and just white noise like fans or TVs, trying to acclimatise to it.

Nothing stops the vibrations sadly.

Would you consider white noise? Bose do a great range of noise control headphones. Pricey but good.
My friend uses them for her severely autistic son who bolts if he hears dogs barking.

X post sorry

Ds has a few pairs, his favourites are an emergency buy from a DIY shop of industrial ones!

White noise is actually how I describe one of my conditions which is, gradually, worsening my ability to cope with other noise.

The road won't be temporary and The mh stuff has been going on for months. I met someone wearing what I thought was wireless headphones and were ear defenders in pharmacy - they mentioned they were on the spectrum and found noise a problem too (I was jumped due to noise outside) and I ought to try them. The ones I ordered aren't great - they reduce some noise but hurt (I've bad tonsillitis though so that may also be why they hurt).

I'd not wear them outside I don't think but inside where I am mostly now due to illnesses would, I think, really help.

Have you thought about noise cancelling headphones? Dh has a pair and even in busy commuter trains he says he can’t hear anything and when I’ve used them they have been awesome.

Bose are a good brand of noise cancelling headphones but not cheap

Yes those are what I meant. They seem to be known as ear defenders as well. Noise cancelling sounds better though!
