Getting to Old Trafford ⚽️

I’ve heard that getting the tram from the city centre is the best way to get to the ground via public transport. Is that right? Does anyone know which number tram and where from please? Smile

Also how do you pay for the ticket, on the tram from the driver? Blush

Jut asked my DH- he said to get the metro to the Old Trafford stop

Buy your ticket on the platform before boarding or you risk a fine. If you're going for football it's easy, there's massive queues of football fans at the tram stops in central Manchester. Just join them!

Where are you coming from? There's loads of stops along the way from the main station to the end station - and there's no actual stop for Old Trafford football ground yet.

There's also no actual number tram - they all have the final destination on the front. There are lots of maps and info at the tram stops to help you work out which one is best for you (Manchester / Eccles is a good one if you get off at Pomona stop and walk to the ground).

You pay at the tram stop at the ticket machines.

We're getting a bus in to Manchester Piccadilly.

Hi,

Trams in Manchester aren't numbered. Each platform will tell you the direction they're going in and you'll want the Altrincham line. You can't pay for tickets on the tram so need to get them from the machine or download the "Get Me There" app on your phone.

Hope this helps!

You can get a ticket from the bus driver called a system one anyday bus and tram ticket. It costs 7.00 if you're traveling within greater Manchester.
May be cheaper than individual tickets

Instead of getting a tram get a bus from Piccadilly gardens, get the stagecoach bus number 250 .ask the driver for a daysaver ticket ( £4.50 per adult ) you can get off and on as many stagecoach busses ( any service number ) as you want with this ticket the stop is less than a two min walk from the footy ground and you can see it as you approach so you will not miss your stop. They run about every 15 mins.
Or get a tram from Piccadilly and get off at Anchorage transfer is about £4 I think but a trams get very very busy.
With both services you can pay by cash or card but be aware you might not be able to get change from the tram station if you use a note

Transfer ???? tram fare !

ForalltheSaints · 06/10/2018 12:59

Hope Newcastle win! Tram is the best option. As is the all day ticket most likely.

When you leave get the tram going one stop in the wrong direction, cross over the platform and then get the tram back to the centre. Otherwise you could be waiting a long time in the queue of tourists with replica red and white kit.

(the team I follow played them a few years ago)

If you hear a Mancunian accent in the ground from other than the catering and stadium staff, this will be rare.

GreyPJs · 06/10/2018 23:56

Well that was quite the game!

Lots and lots of Manc accents actually. Unfortunately they were shouting an absolute ton of pretty vile abuse. Just not needed!!

Tram worked perfectly. Smile
