Any London-based Fish era Marillion fans out there?

Fish is playing at the Islington Assembly Halls at the beginning of December. I would love to go but can't persuade any of my friends to go with me!

I'm happy to go to the cinema or theatre alone, but this feels different so I wondered if anyone fancies meeting there and going together?

I've never done this before so any tips on staying safe in case either one of us is actually a hairy trucker called Dave gratefully received Smile

So wish I was in London - for years I swore my firstborn would be named Kayleigh and a little bit of me still regrets that I didn’t actually do itGrin

I’m in Scotland but DH loves Fish and looking up the details, he’s doing DH’s favourite album. Maybe I could persuade him to do an overnight in London with me. I love London. Grin We’re very nice normal people. Grin

Go anyway! I’ve done concerts in my own and it’s fine! And fun!

He is also playing In Glasgow Doge (not that I don't want to meet you Smile

Not in London and not a fan but I have been to plenty of gigs by myself. I think it's easier than going to the cinema alone because it's less obvious you're by yourself, especially if you're standing!

WickedGoodDoge · 06/10/2018 18:22

Ha, ha, I was going to say, “No, don’t say that!” but I just looked up the date and DH says that’s his work’s Christmas night out so it’s no good for him. Maybe I could tell him London is what I want for Christmas. I love a good excuse to go to London and he loves Marillion. Win win surely? Grin Sadly he’s not biting so far.

Is that the era of marillion that did Grendal?
Such an amazing song that I love

I am big M fan too (prefer h era) and usually go to gigs alone. But I always go to the pub beforehand where there's loads of fans gathered and it's easy to buddy up with some others to hang out with. I saw fish in London in 2008 before his throat op and he was amazing. Saw him about 3 yrs ago too and sadly his show was more talk/rant than singing. But I hear his voice is better now that it was then. Have a look on his FB Page and ask where fans are meeting - they're all great and you might make some new gigging mates Smile

Oh my God, this has bought back some memories Shock

I followed Fish and then Steve Hogarth when he became lead singer. Saw them both live many times.

You’re bound to get chatting to others there.....I bet you surprise yourself!

Terf2Terf · 06/10/2018 22:49

Kris why the past tense? Are you no longer going to Marillion gigs?!

KriswithaK · 06/10/2018 23:02

Not any more Sad I’d LOVE to.

I am quite poorly with chronic illnesses (MRI’s, bloods, x-rays, professors & physios quartlerly (& weekly injections to boot) for life) If I gave up work I’d physically be able to go but I can’t afford that atm.

I can’t grumble, I have the best memories.

That’s why I say you should just GO! You never know what tomorrow brings. I learned the hard way. Go and have a good time for me!!!

Hey OP
I am a person of Scottish origin who pretty much grew up to the soundtrack or Mr Derek Dick but never saw him live (have had a pint in his company a few times though, I’m from East Lothian). I’d totally go with you. Mind you, I am nearly 50 and live in Hampshire and I’d need a childminder and full credibility check on you in case you’re a complete fruit loop. Ffs, spontanaeity is definitely something you lose with age, innit.

wineoclockthanks · 08/10/2018 18:07

Hi tenpast
I'm st the other side of 50 (and since the hot flushes kicked in, definitely totally fruit-loopy!). I first saw them in 1984 and ironically went on my own because no-one I knew liked them. However I was 19 and scared of nothing then!

Sadly, DS has just announced its his school charisma's production those nights so I can't go anyway. Please go for me and I look forward to hearing a review Smile

@Inforthelonghaul a friend of mines 15 yr old daughter is called Kayleigh after Marillions Kayleigh!

Fantastiqueangel · 08/10/2018 18:37

I often go to Marillion gigs alone and find everyone so welcoming, so I'm sure it'll be the same for Fish.

Fantastiqueangel · 08/10/2018 18:38

Just seen that you have to miss it anyway. Bad luck.
