Do bunk beds for 3 year olds exist?

We are really struggling for room with my DCs and bunk beds would be a good solution until we get moved and they have their own rooms.

All the bunk beds I have found say suitable for 6 or 7 plus.

Do ones for 3 year olds exist? (Well ones that aren’t £1000+)

The age restriction is likely due to having the bunk. I am sure you don’t have plans to put your 3yr old on the top bunk! So I wouldn’t get bogged down on the age

These are small and quite low. Not sure id put a 3yo on the top bunk though.

They are both three so one would have to be at the top, obviously if this isn’t safe, we wouldn’t do it.

My three year old is on the top bunk of a normal pair of bunk beds without a problem.

Bunk beds for 3 yr olds are called ‘bunk beds’. The age things is a guideline and to cover their asses. It’s up to you to decide if you want to use them earlier (like many people do) or not.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 06/10/2018 08:03

Like others said - the age thing is not about construction but safety, you won't find one that rates safe for 3 year olds. My DCs are fairly sensible but I still wouldn't have used bunks at this age, because all it takes is one unsupervised game for them to fall such a long way down
Could they share a small double?

Pinkgeorge · 06/10/2018 08:05

My twins went in bunks from age just 4!! Never had any issues

glintandglide · 06/10/2018 08:07

Normal bunk beds with those barriers you can buy up. They would have to be compliant children though because you’d have to tell them not to get out of bed alone (mine is, and does shout for Us so we can watch her climb down)

Thanks everyone. You’ve given me some food for thought.

Might wait another 6 months and look into getting some then.
DS would be on top and has never attempted to get out of bed without one of us coming to get him. DD on the other hand is forever in and out of her bed so would be on the bottom.

We have been through so many beds with DD and bunk beds were her bribe to end co sleeping. She was so excited. She is 3.5 though, and as I say very good at not getting down herself. I don’t think it will long until she learns to do it though

VenelopeVonSweetz · 06/10/2018 08:15

Thanks @glint

DD comes in our bed every night too! Hoping bunk beds might convince her to stay in her own room!

Google the ikea kura bunk bed hack. It's much lower so more suited for young children. And you can use a trofast unit as a staircase.
I currently have my just turned four year old at the top and my 16 month d at the bottom. We did it slightly differently by hacking two (second hand) ones together to male the bottom bed enclosed, but at three years old you wouldn't need to do that. Just buy one, add slats to the bottom and ta daa bunks.
