Mine is the same and its a pain in the arse. Is there an override button. Putting it on again only does a few more minutes...

I think I need to treasure my 15 year old Hotpoint vented tumble drier with it's timer and 2 heat settings as it sounds to me like more modern models are not fit for purpose!

My washing machine is another matter though. It too lies about time left. It also beeps at me when I press start, to tell me there is a problem - but just pressing start again without adjusting anything usually results in it doing its job. It is also absolutely useless at spinning out anything that holds lots of water even if there is a load in that can be equally balanced e.g. washed 2 beach towels the other day - it wouldn't spin them out. I manually rearranged them.....still wouldn't spin them. Enter my DM's old spinner from 40 years ago which I keep in the garage........It is my saviour. This machine is an all singing, all dancing Siemens machine - not some cheap base model.

No dryer here (DH lied about that “you won’t miss the washer/ dryer it’s hardly ever used”). However, the washing machine would swear black was white. One hour cycle, put it on st 6.45, should be fine by 8.00? Nope, not in my washing machine’s world.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 06/10/2018 08:53

My old Hotpoint used to lie all the time. Five minutes left! Oh wait, actually it's twenty.
When it finally died I was happy.
We have a Blomberg now. That's the posh wing of Beko. As a washing machine it's ace, but the tumble dry settings are lies all lies.
Cupboard dry? Well only if you like your cupboards very damp. Iron dry. Iron dry? That just means it's made a bit of noise for ten minutes to present you with wet warm washing.
Thankfully the folks at Blomberg knew this was no good and also fitted it with a timer so I can put it in for 90 minutes and then the stuff is dry! Whoop.
Does anyone else have a printer that lies about being out of ink? My old HP bubble jet used to tell massive porkies about that. No, you really don't have to stop everything to interject that "magenta is empty" for one thing it isn't and for two I'm printing a black and white text document!
My current cannon printer is equally as fibby and attention seeking.

Blackoutblinds · 06/10/2018 08:55

Omg my printer.

4 times this week I had to change the black cartridge because it wouldn’t print black and white. And it kept saying it was empty.

(Compatible cartridges though, so all my own fault for being a cheapskate)

At the risk of people thinking we are not stupid...have you cleaned the main filter..warm and damp especially tells me the filter is blocked..

mummmy2017 · 06/10/2018 09:00

Becko sensor dryer... Got it half price.
Full load of towels hour to dry. But my god you get a full water trough each time and have to empty it.
However we run it in evenings as it heats the house....

Blackoutblinds · 06/10/2018 09:01

Yes I have cleaned the lint filter and the main filter in underneath that you take out and put a hose through/ pick the bits out of.

Mine can't tell time also. I put it on a timed setting. It says things like "30" min remaining, but it will say that for 10 min, and occasionally, after it's moved on, will return to it. I did time the length of a setting once and over all it was correct.

64BooLane · 06/10/2018 09:07

Mine will keep telling me it has 15 minutes to go for a solid hour Angry

Longdistance · 06/10/2018 09:09

Mine’s a lying bastard too. It’ll be on for 2 hours and it’s still damp Angry fuck you Hotpoint!

girlandboy · 06/10/2018 09:19

My tumble dryer is nearly 25 years old. It has a hot setting and a cool setting never been used and a dial timer. Brilliant!!

It died three years ago is nothing built to last but DH resurrected it with judicious use of a fret saw and some cable ties 😊

The new washing machine however lies through its teeth with its fancy digital timer!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/10/2018 12:20

You're all making me pleased I went for a cheap and cheerful no frills dryer to put in the garage earlier this year!

My washing machine is generally quite truthful thoughSmile

Munchmallow · 06/10/2018 12:31

This is why I replaced my Bosch condenser dryer with a cheap Indesit one.

I control the drying time and it does a load of towels in 80 minutes or so. It doesn't get as ridiculously hot as the Bosch and has a nice cool down at the end so washing doesn't come out as creased. And the washing is DRY when I take it out.

oopslateagain · 06/10/2018 12:42

I have very un-eco-friendly Whirlpool appliances, a top-loader washer and a dryer. The washer is hot fill and takes exactly 45 minutes for a super wash, no idea of the load size but it's six adult-sized pairs of jeans plus a week's worth of socks/knickers/pants for 3 of us. The dryer easily takes all of that and dries it in 1 hour.

I bloody love them. rebel
