Can we do an Australian version? How much do you spend on grocery shopping..

Per week? How many people is it for and where do you shop?

I’m flabbergasted at the £££ people spend on their grocery shopping each week as I automatically convert to the AU$ (comparing apples with oranges I know).

I shop at Coles for myself, DP and our 1 yo DD (still BF and eats very little). We eat meat, I meal plan and don’t do any ‘top up’ shops during the week.

Yesterday I spent $165. This included a rotisserie chicken which does two meals and a lunch. Steak for DP for one night and chicken for me. Two of the planned meals are already in the freezer. I could easily have spent $200 but this would have included luxuries like bacon, salmon for bagels and a 24 pack of coke (and more chocolate).

This didn’t include nappies as I always get them at Aldi.

Interested to know what other Australian families spend on the weekly shopping?

Should also point out that's my winter diet. Summer is rotisserie chicken / roast pork / steak with salad. Pretty much every day for 3-4 months. I miss summer!! (Melbourne ish)

I googled... $100 aus = £53 uk. Does that sound right.

I usually shop the big supermarkets Woolworths or Coles.

I could weep at what you pay! I reckon I pay 50% more.

I’m in NZ, been here for 6 years and still reel at the cost each time I hit the checkout. I wouldn’t mind if it was decent quality, but it’s really not. Love coming to Australia and going to the supermarket, the fruit, veg and meat are amazing quality.

Yeh, I just think of the £ as being roughly half of the AU$. So when I read someone spends £200 on groceries I’m thinking that’s AU$400 IYKWIM. I know it doesn’t really work like that though but still. I thought the UK was cheaper for food so am surprised at such large amounts.

Single mom with a teen, toddler and a new born who is breastfeed. I do a bulk shop every second week in Aldi for $160 and then might top up in the local iga or woollies for another $50! Try to batch cook if I can as it stops me from going to the shop all the time. We have a mostly vegetarian lifestyle though
