Free parking within 20 minutes of Central London?

Such a random question. DH is driving me and my Nan to the The Ritz in a couple of weeks. It was her Christmas present from me last year, but she then had a fall and broke her leg, so we're only getting round to it now!

We can't add DH to the booking (and it's not his thing anyway) but does anyone know of a supermarket or McDonalds within 20 minutes drive he could sit at Grin

Tried googling but I'm getting fed up now. To be honest, we don't mind paying for parking, it's more somewhere he can get a drink and there's a toilet if necessary. He'll have about 2 hours to wait for us.

Which side of London are you coming from?

notWORKzilla · 05/10/2018 22:25

20 mins drive from the Ritz won’t get you very far at all!! If it’s a Sunday, you may get on street parking free in Mayfair. Off Berkeley sq, near Farm St church is usually a good bet.
If it’s Monday to Saturday, I’m sorry but you don’t have a hope.
If he’s happy to stay in the car, you could park in the same area and move if you see a traffic warden?

ileclerc · 05/10/2018 22:27

Where are you driving from? Parking near the Ritz in the nearest NCP is about £15 an hour he could drop you off, Park for an hour and then head back to get you. Traffic will eat the other hour.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 05/10/2018 22:27

He could park at Waterloo and use the facilities there and at the south bank - the Ritz is in the congestion zone so you'll have to pay for him to be central anyway. Other that that there is onstreet parking around Mayfair if you use the Ringo app. No help for the loo and a drink though.

Enjoy afternoon tea!

rightreckoner · 05/10/2018 22:28

The Sainsburys on the Cromwell Road. You’d probably have to buy £10 of shopping but then you’d have the shopping so I deem that free !

Or if it’s a Sunday you can park in quite a lot of Marylebone and probably Mayfair in a yellow line. I live in Marylebone so I know the parking there - guess Mayfair is similar.

MegBusset · 05/10/2018 22:28

Where are you coming from? Probably easier to drop you at an outlying tube station where he can then go off and do something else!

mentalmickey · 05/10/2018 22:28

I doubt you will find any free parking but also check whether you need to pay the congestion charge

dangerrabbit · 05/10/2018 22:29

Is it on a Sunday? Then street parking is free

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/10/2018 22:30

What day is it? We’re about 15 minutes drive from Piccadilly and parking is free all weekend.

MoveOnTheCards · 05/10/2018 22:30

If the tube is an option, the Ritz is directly opposite Green Park station which is step-free between the platforms and the street. Might be easier to use public transport, depending on the day of the week.

theworldistoosmall · 05/10/2018 22:30

Download GoPark. Will show nearest places to park for free on the actual time and day you need it.
As for him sitting somewhere, there are loads of places nearby.

loveulotslikejellytots · 05/10/2018 22:31

Sorry, it's a Thursday, and coming from Kent. Nan really struggles walking any distance now (and refuses a wheelchair) which is why DH is driving us, we would have got the train otherwise.

Ok, maybe I'll pack him a flask of coffee and get him to park up nearby and watch out for traffic wardens Grin

after about half past one on a Saturday you might get a space around Bloomsbury, try queens square. You could then get a Piccadilly line from Russell Square to green park.

loveulotslikejellytots · 05/10/2018 22:32

And I don't mind paying for parking, we will need to pay congestion. Will have a look at GoPark, thank you.

Ah, just seen your update, shame I thought I had found the perfect option! Somewhere near a Piccadilly line station could be a solution though.

notWORKzilla · 05/10/2018 22:35

If he drops you at the ritz, it’s just a few mins to drive towards farms street/Berkeley sq. if he pays for parking he can have a walk / sit in Berkeley sq for some fresh air and there’s loads of places on the sq to get a sandwich or something to eat too

cestlavielife · 05/10/2018 22:37

Google parkopedia green park and loom at car parks and on street .
On street drive around to find a spot

cestlavielife · 05/10/2018 22:38

Nothing free on a Thursday!

ileclerc · 05/10/2018 22:39

Is the train into Victoria possible and a quick cab to the ritz or is she too immobile for that? Would save a lot of faff.

moredoll · 05/10/2018 22:54

Email the Ritz, explain your Nan has limited mobility and see what they suggest.

Don't know if it applies if you're not staying overnight, but I can't see why not unless they're very busy.
